Re: Best spinning Reel for +-$120
Speaking from a reel repair point of view, this is what I am seeing: They need to be rinsed, dried and oiled after EACH use. Hey, fishingfool ... what should we do when it comes to oiling a spinning reel after use? I rinse mine, but I don't oil them ... and don't know how to do so ... yet. Can you ...

Re: Poll: Has flats fishing gotten worse over the years?
All hail, FUTCHCAIRO ... not often we get a fishing report from 85 years in the past ... with handmade plugs, too, from a handmade boat as well.

Stop fishing now.
Put down your rods.
You'll never have a better day.
To forge on ... risks Ahab-like obsession and pursuit.

Re: Any Scallop Reports?
After all this, you know, unseemly stuff that was washed into the water during Hurricane Hermine, I don't think I want to be diving in.
I also wouldn't want to eat any oysters or scallops ... they might not be healthy.

Re: New danger sign where the sunken barge is in St. Mark's
Thanks for the history lesson, rockyg.
I'd always wondered what that wreck was about.
Nice work by the guy who pulled the doomed boat out of the channel before it sank.
And salvaged for scrap for the WWII effort. Interesting.

July 10 - heavy traffic
Put in early at St. Marks today ... on the way back in, around 11 a.m., and ... whoa, that's a lot of boats! River was full of folks heading out (for scallops, I presume). I don't think I've ever seen the lighthouse flats so crowded. The Spanish fort ramp was busy but handled the congestion well. Go...

Bottoms Road ... where might this be?
I'm not familiar with that location.

Re: Garmin - no satellites
OK, good to know this may not be fatal. I was already shopping for a replacement. I'll try the auto-locate next time I'm out if this happens again. Thanks, zload, for the Garmin link. Looks like it needs to be done via a PC (an .exe file). I've got a Mac. I'll contact Garmin and see what they recomm...

Re: Garmin - no satellites
OK, that is exactly what I was getting with my Garmin 178C (which has a built-in antenna, not an external one). Just as you described it. This was Sunday, not Saturday. I did not try the "auto-locate" option. Instead, I directed it to keep trying to locate the satellites. I have no idea wh...

Garmin - no satellites
Took the boat out over the weekend. Had a nice time, except ... my Garmin 178C would not find any satellites.
Depth finder worked, but not the GPS.
Seems serious. Any chance of fixing this, or ... am I shopping for a new unit?

Re: Shields Marina
I got my boat at Shields (an Angler, with an Envirude motor), and was pleased with how it went. Service has been good, too, though I've not really needed much on that rig. That ship's store is fantastic — well-equipped, and kinda gorgeous. Even if you don't need anything, you should stick your head ...
