Re: Harvey/TX Gulf Coast

This morning the media questions to the FEMA chief were all questioning why they did not evacuate Houston. The problem is that they would have had to have made that call on Monday in order to move 5 million people and not strand them on the highway. My family are all safe (Thank God), but one cousin...

Re: FAVORITE SHARK HOOK? And why? for medium sized sharks

Depends on the size bait I am using and whether or not I am holding the rod or have it in a rod holder. If I am holding the rod, I prefer a J hook size 7/0-9/0. Fishing from shore with the rod in a holder, I use circle hooks size 9/0 to 13/0 and use pliers and a crimping tool to open the gap a littl...

Re: Oyster Bay?

I agree with Steve. I fish that area quite a bit. the water is really stained right now and the fishing was tough over the 4th of July. Good luck and post a report.

Re: I scouted St. Marks for scallops on June 30th

I did not scout them, but did look for them today. The navy was out in force. We moved a bunch of times and the 7 of us picked up about 25 scallops total. Tough day, but at least it was calm early.

Re: grass

Grass is frustrating. I usually throw a twitch bait and I switch to a popping cork rig when the grass is bad. I agree with Apalachee Inshore that I slow down my action a lot so I don't spend all of my time pulling weeds. On the plus side, we just caught a big cobia out from under a big grass mat.

Re: Clear water

Water visibility was 6-8" at Shell Point/Live Oak last Saturday. Waves were 3-4' so I did not go any further east. Had a buddy fish Ecofina yesterday and he said you will not be able to see scallops from the boat. Have to get in the water and look which can be a slow process.

Re: ST Marks NWR - 25 June 2017

Well done. I fished with my buddy Joe on the afternoon falling tide. We took a beating from the wind and waves. Managed 5 short trout, 2 ladyfish, 5 catfish, and a puffer. Water visibility was about 8 inches. Did have a great hamburger at Outz on the way home.

Nicely done. We finally caught a legal cobia this year and they are fun. Great post.

Re: Saturday 6/10 bonus fish

Thanks BBG. I cut all the color off the filets beforehand. I then cut the filets into steaks about 1.5" thick, rubbed them with olive oil, garlic salt and lemon pepper and cooked them 2 minutes a side on a 425 degree grill. Drizzled with lemon butter. The crew ate all I cooked. Texture is a lot...

We had to move a lot, but ended up with 9 trout and 5 Spanish between the 4 of us. Did catch a bonus cobia which made the day.

Saturday 6/10 bonus fish

Have not had a chance to fish much with my son's graduation and all the events that surrounded that event, but had a chance to go with him yesterday. I managed to get him out of the house around 8 am and we drove down to the coast. We had a great conversation and he talked about all of the trips we ...
