Bonus fish trip saturday
Went down to the coast Saturday about lunchtime for a little saltwater therapy. My son slept in so I ended up fishing alone. I launched and ran to my first spot with no luck. Spot number two yielded two shorts and a hardhead. It was windy, but I decided to make another move. I ran a line of crab tra...

Re: Saturday 4/1
Congrats on a great trip. I fished Saturday afternoon in all of the wind and didn't do any good. Sunday morning was calm and the fishing was much better.

Do a 6" length of 50 lb mono as a bite guard or shock tippet and it will reduce your cutoffs.

Re: Shell Point 4-1-17
Saturday afternoon was brutal for me. 2 shorts a hardhead and a monster sailcat. Wind was really blowing and it was not fun. Sunday morning it was calm and the water was much cleaner. Fished the same spots with the same baits and wore out the trout. Lots of other people caught fish Saturday morning....

Re: Bitten off
I agree. I fish 30 lb flouro and sacrifice a few baits in order to get bit more often instead of using wire. When using live baits, I have found using a longer shank hook (O'shaunessy, etc.) helps reduce cut offs. Check your leader after every fish and retie if it is nicked in any way. I caught a Sp...

Re: Any report from the flats at St. Marks?
Caught a limit of trout in an hour Friday night after work. Fished all day Saturday and Sunday with kids in the same area with just shorts and one 15.5" trout to show for it.

Re: Quail and Hard Labor Creek Plantation
I have not hunted Quail and Hard Labor creek plantation so I cannot speak to their program. Sidney Gainey used to run Dogwood Shooting Preserve outside of Cairo and he had a great piece of property and the birds flew well. You might talk to him.

Shell Point 2/4/2017
Met my buddy Tim and we launched about 8:30. It was cooler on the water than I expected and windier. Tim caught a trout first cast out on the flats and I thought it was going to be easy. We ended up moving a lot fishing the flats, oyster bars and even up in the creeks and finding a few fish here and...

Nice trout. We caught mostly shorts on Sunday. Barefoot fishing in January. Gotta love being in the South.

We fished Sunday and caught several croaker between 4 and 6 inches long. Looks like I should have put them on a hook instead of releasing them. Nicely done.

Very cool video. The black coyote is only the second one I have ever seen. You have a wide range of critters cruising the property.

Nicely done! Were you live bait fishing? We may try it this weekend. Last year around this time we got a two minute video of a bald eagle chasing an osprey trying to steal his fish. Gotta love those wildlife moments.
