Re: Newbie needs advice surf casting gear
The gear is not important anything that will cast and retrieve will work. The bait is what is important watch the sand as the waves retreat for movement or irregularities. Start digging with your hands in that spot and you should find some sand fleas. You put them on a hook and you will likely catch...

Penn battle 4000
Sams club in tally has Penn 4000 battle series reels on a Penn Surf rod for $99. I just bought a 3000 series at Bass pro for that without a rod. Just in case anyone is interested.

Re: St. George Island
Water was clear I could see the Rays swim off as I was wading. Towards the end of the day it did have a slight yellow tint. We were fishing at the second bath house in the park.

St. George Island
We made two nice trips to SGI in as many weeks. The first trip we fished all day from the beach with nothing to show for it. We were using shrimp from Crums. That place is like a magnet my truck just can't seem to pass it without stopping. Once the tide started down we waded out to the sand bar and ...

Re: braid knots
I started closing the bell manually years ago, I checked the bearing today and it is rolling as it should. It is with lighter lures that I have the problem. I will try spooling the line out tomorrow after church and see if it helps.
Thanks for all the advice!

Just want to say thanks to some local commercial guys. I was sitting on the dock behind the house yesterday fishing with my three youngest. We were catching some small fish and saving them for bait which for them is as good as going off shore. I was fishing for something bigger but the blue crabs di...

braid knots
I have a 7' ML Temple Fork Outfitters rod with a Penn 3000 battle and 20# braid. I can't remember the brand but 150 yards was $50. If I fish live or frozen baits its great if I try to fish an artificial it will knot every second or third cast. I understand its due to the frequency of cast is there a...

Re: Croakers in Panacea
The best way I know to get pens is to go to Walmart. When it comes to pinfish I have found that keeping a tight line so you can feel the bite will produce more fish. I have never caught a crocker here but in Texas I would catch them the same as pinfish near rock structure.

Re: Pecan Wood for Smoking??
What are you looking for soaking wood or split wood? I have a lot of it in Arkansas. If I make a trip soon I will bring you some. In the meantime if you can't find any you can get it on ebay. Better yet I have a buddy coming down next week if you just need some small stuff to soak I could have him b...

Re: Anyone fish this area of Mashes Sands?
I have gone in on that little sand road on the bottom right of center. I see folks out their fishing a lot and the road gets lots of traffic. I have seen fish in the area but never caught one. If you follow that little cut back to the beach I have caught fish there before it closed off with sand.

Dog crate
I have one extra large, camo dog crate purchased from Academy Sports about a year ago. It has been washed with soap and water regularly and kept inside or under a roof except the few times it was in the truck. I would like to trade it for a smaller one of similar condition or sell it for $65 so I ca...

White Trout
I have fished off my dock on grassy inlet all winter with very limited success. The last five days fishing the falling tide I have probably caught over two hundred 6 to 8 inch fish (White trout I guess and one Pin) off the dock with the kids. They aren't much for normal tackle but on an ultra light ...
