Re: Water conditions and fish biting
Water is dark, but the fish are there. Caught a limit of nice trout, including several over slot which had to go back, right on the edge of where the bottom starts to drop off into the main river channel near the down-river oyster bars. This was on live shrimp, could not get a bite on plastic. Also ...

Trout still there
Went out Tuesday 10/4 to see if we could find a few trout after the great flush of the bay from Ian. Only saw two other boats all day, and those who could have gone and didn't missed a beautiful day and an opportunity to catch some quality trout. Water clarity was good, and not much floating grass. ...

Re: Flats reports???
Was a beautiful day out there Sunday, and that brought the armada out. Trailers parked everywhere at the St. Marks fort; even the FWC ranger truck/trailer had to park in the overflow lot. Most people I saw seemed patient with the launch lines. Saw most boats going East so decided to fish the West fl...

SW Fl trout, redfish, snook catch and release order extended
For the zone that extends from just north of Tampa to Naples, the FWC has extended a catch and release order for these inshore species until May 2021 due to lingering effects of red tide. While the fishery certainly needs time to recover and the FWC probably made the right call, this is bound to hav...

David Gibbs has turned up again
See this thread from several years ago, http://www.bigbendfishing.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=36400 This guy showed up yesterday in a neighborhood where I own property off Capital Circle NW near Northwoods Baptist Church. See the message below from a neighborhood watch group over there. -----...

Re: Budget Rod/reel options
Yeah, I still love my Shimanos but I have a 17 yo daughter who is enamored with a boyfriend who loves to fish and hunt and goes with him all the time. I'm just not going to let her take out my best stuff. I've been thinking about trying one of the "South GA " reels for her and see how long...

Re: Budget Rod/reel options
I bought a Kast King Sharky II a couple of years ago when someone was promoting them on here and was quite pleased with it. Very smooth, good drag control. However this fall after I had not used it in a couple months it apparently had a bearing failure and locked up tight as a drum in the middle of ...

Red snapper management possible changes
I received an emailed survey from a researcher with Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at UF regarding changes to snapper management being considered. The message indicated that it was being sent to all who hold gulf reef fish licenses. The survey indicated that one of the options being considered inste...

Re: outdoor community lost an advocate
Jerry was not only a great advocate for the outdoor community, but quite the talented writer with a keen sense of humor. He could make an article about scraping barnacles off a boat interesting. We will miss him.

St Marks report Sunday 5/26
Found a hot trout bite east of lighthouse in 7 - 9 ft of water. Bouncing plastics any color off the grass was the ticket. A few shorts but mostly chunky 17 - 19" trout. Left 'em biting about 1:30 when it got too hot for the girls on the boat.

Re: State of Affairs
Amen, Gary. As the dad of two young teen girls, I'm hopeful that attitudes will keep changing enough make a real difference. I've had them show us texts and social media of such things as them being asked for nude photos. I'm thankful that they bring things like this to our attention, but they reall...

Re: Who sells trailer axles?
I replaced both axles on my trailer several years ago and got by far the best price from this place: https://www.championtrailers.com/ They are located in Slidell, LA just this side of New Orleans. They will build to your specs and ship to you or you can do what I did and pick it up on your way to a...

USAF 01/1973 - 12/1976 Lackland AFB, TX Keesler AFB, MS Ellsworth AFB, SD I was fortunate enough to get USAF training on servicing and supporting computer systems, primitive as they were at that time, and turned it into a career in IT. Many of the locals did not show us respect in that era. Happy to...
