Those rocks claimed another lower unit Saturday. A long time friend from Albany was coming upriver in his "first time in the water" Key West when the rocks ate the lower unit of his new 90 Johnson. :( With at least half water I usually cut behind the island on plane which keeps me on the w...

Welcome aboard!

Look forward to seeing you at Ankyfaenna. Just got my camper back down there this weekend and hopefully will start back fishing next weekend.

Keep the reports coming!

Sure is fun to fish topwater around that stuff! We used to fish it all
day between Econfina and Aucilla. I'm glad to see it returning although
it doesn't seem to hold fish like days of old. :smt017

Maybe its just my memory. I've heard it said that's the second thing to go...... :(

I had to replace my very old Plano during spring due to a "mishap." :( I jumped over side after walking boat off a bar and landed directly on my poor ole box with all 240. Plano customer service, as nice as they are, decided I didn't qualify for a free replacement. I actually repaired it w...

Looks as if we'll be hearing an occasional missile go over our heads if we're in Hickory Mound area. It is quite comforting to know only about one in ten will have a warhead. The target area is supposed to be about one square mile from what was published in minutes of commissioners' meeting. Another...

Update from Ch6: 3 found alive and airlifted to Shans; one
deceased. In cam views, the gulf appeared so calm and inviting.
We all must remember there's no such thing as being too
careful.

Cajun anchor

Well, gave my new cajun anchor a workout at Econfina from about 3am till daylight last Saturday. I was surprised how simple and efficient it works unless over shell bar. Anywhere on sand and mud bottom it held my 17 wide skiff without a problem in wind and tide. I have the 5 foot model and used it a...

Econfina water conditions?

Thinking about doing some moonlitin out of Anky Fri and Sat nights
if weather cooperates. Went down and tried last month only to get on
flats at 3am and not able to throw topwater due to floating grass.
Anyone got an update on water conditions? Info appreciated!

Rod holders....there never seems to be enough! I also like carrying a small hand pump and hose in case bilge pump acts up and also use it to wash down inside of boat sometimes after a "bloody battle." Also consider a spare prop, hat and sunglasses. Seems there's always something to add! Bu...

Many thanks for compliment! One of my sons took pic over my shoulder early one morning recently headed into creek near Hickory Mound.
Always great down there!
