Keaton Saturday 6/17

Hit the water around 7:30 Saturday morning. plan was to catch some fish and then scallop. We fished the 5-7 foot depth with no luck, not even a short trout. Moved to 8-10 feet and caught a few short trout. Moved farther north and managed 1 keeper trout, 1 Spanish, and 5 12-15 inch rock bass. Caught ...

Re: Scallop Season

Yes I did go. We fished a little that morning. got on the water around 7:30. had two people that had never fished before. Had very slow day. We decided around 12 to go look for scallops. I am new to scalloping and I was told to just go where there is a lot of boats. So we went down south and past th...

Scallop Season

I know its starting this weekend in Keaton-Steinhatchee area. It seems earlier than usual. Has anyone noticed any? My last couple trips down we were fishing deep and I didn't think to look.

Re: Keaton 6/4

Let the fish float away, they will still burn your azz if they catch you with a small trout. I know the feeling, it seems like a waste, but they'd rather see it as crab bait than you keeping it. BTW, that was a great catch on the keepers. They will more likely stay out in deeper water now until fal...

Re: Boca Grande Pass Tarpon

I was able to make a trip to Boca Grande this year on mothers day weekend with a couple friends. It was my first tarpon fishing experience and now I'm hooked. We pulled in 5 that were 70lb-100lb it was a great experience. Ill be making the trip annually.

Keaton 6/4

Took the boat and two friends to Keaton Yesterday. We were on the water at 7, planning to fish just the incoming tide that morning. We had shrimp and pin fish in the live well and headed north towards spring warrior. We started out in 5-6 feet of water. Caught a few shorts and a couple keeper rock b...

Re: SGI Area advice?

Hey all, I'm headed to SGI state park for a six day camping trip in a few days, boating into the primitive sites. I usually fish the St. Marks area, and my only Apalachicola bay experience is on the old bridge pier. Any advice on where to try/what depths and colors? Not asking for any secret spots,...

Little grasshopper wrote:90% of our fish was not caught on cork (while 90% of the people I saw were using corks). I think the chop had them closer to the bottom.
It was choppy too

thanks for the insight. I soak it all in.

Re: Weekend trip to Keaton

How deep where you fishing? I stayed in 4-6 but kept thinking I needed to move out. water was near 84 but I stayed around the 5 feet ranger. all on grass and sand spots. didn't target structure, I guess I should more often. Still learning.

Re: Weekend trip to Keaton

awesome catch. we fished Keaton all day Saturday from 8-7, limit of trout and piles of rock bass. I haven't been able to get any reds this year either. we went from spring creek all the way past rock island.

Keaton 4/8

Put in around 9:00 tide was pretty low. went towards spring warrior. 4-5 feet of water slight stain, starting catching a couple shorts but majority of bite was rock bass. kept 4 on the day all above 11 inches. reeled in a large bluefish on a cork with a cut pin fish under it. bite slowed there moved...

Re: Steinhatchee Creeks

Make sure your boat insurance is paid up before going south even on the flats... Yeah, i ran up in rocky creek during high tide last year. Not a problem, fished a while and low tide hit the night turned out very rough as we made it back in with a tow. I pulled boat back home and had to file a claim...

Re: Keaton Beach 3/11

Yeah, we were in the line with you at Keaton as well. someones trailer broke off and supposedly they left it in the water and went fishing, don't know the truth to that or not and i would hope its false. but yes, the Tide was crazy low. we had our luck in same water. 4 feet, 70 degrees and darker co...
