Re: Sibiki Rig St Marks
Ive tried cast net and sabikis but the best way I've found is with a cane pole (what you southerners call a "bream buster" ). Hit the grass flats pretty much anywhere and you will fill your live well in 20 minutes or less. Tip the hook with gulp and the little buggers won't be able...

Re: Using pinfish
Pin fish are the best for just about everything, used in every way you mentioned. I've always had the best luck using them live. Put a live one under the popping cork on a stout rod that trails behind the boat as you drift over the flats. You won't be disappointed. I hooked up on a massive tarpon us...

Re: Gheenoe question for a friend..
I pulled some specs to refresh my memory: the Classic has a 55" beam, whereas the LT 25 has a beam of 56". If the LT 25 is the boat he's considering, I think there are a few guys on the board that own(ed) one, so hopefully they'll chime in...it's a slightly larger boat, but that's about a...

Re: Gheenoe question for a friend..
Thanks, all! This pretty much confirms my assumptions. I think I am going to recommend paying up for an actual flats boat.

Gheenoe question for a friend..
A friend of mine is looking into purchasing a gheenoe for inshore fishing in the rivers and estuaries and would like to take it out to the flats on calm days. The model he is looking at is 56" wide. I've never been in one, so I'm hoping someone can offer up some thoughts on how they do when the...

Re: Sibiki Rig St Marks
Don't want to anchor up in the river channel. Boat traffic going to eat your lunch :o Absolutely, no fishing in the channel. Illegal and dumb I've always been curious about the rules on channel fishing. I don't do it because it seemed unsafe (and I'm prone to bad things happening, so no need to tem...

Re: Anyone fish the lighthouse Sunday?
Went out with the wife and fished the east flats. Caught a lot of short trout and sharks. The highlight of the day was a massive 5-6 ft tarpon that destroyed a pin fish on a popping cork. It didn't take long for him to throw the hook, but I got some good drag pull and witnessed a few acrobatics befo...

Re: Puffer fish
I've never tried them, because I heard they were poison. But I've also heard they are really good to eat. A couple years age we got into them at Ochlockonee shoals. Vicious little creatures would hit anything we threw at them. We must have caught 30 of them that day.

Re: Grilling fish????
Cayenne pepper and paprika is my goto base. Then garlic and lemon pepper. I've also started brining fish in a strong salt mix with wirchestershir sauce and a few other spices. I like to slow cook it. A buddy of mine will brush it with blue cheese dressing and garlic. But, if you can get the grill ho...

Re: Lanark Market Bite is On.
Carrabelle ramp was blocked off due to the waterfront festival, so the traffic all backflowed to lanark. We went out around two dogs reef and stacked the cooler with nice size rock bass. We went back in around 5:45 And boat traffic was backed up. It took a good 45 minutes of waiting before we were ...

Re: Live Bait/Carrabelle Newbie
If you're a cheapskate like me hit the flats just inside of the island on your way out. As salty mentioned, sabikis or small hooks and you will fill the live well up quickly. My 5 year old has a blast catching our bait for us out there. And, continuing with my cheapskate rant, Crums had a whole bas...
