Re: St Marks trout thrashing

I agree, J. Saunders. It is much easier to catch a limit of trout in the river than out on the flats. The trick for us lately has been to find the right color lure they want, every day seems different. The last couple times I've been they had no issues eating a Mirrolure 52mr in color 808. I...

Re: St Marks trout thrashing

I don't see how keeping 5 fish in January is any different on the fishery than 5 fish in March or October. The only difference is that you can see all the boats catching in the winter while all the boats are spread out on the flats during the warmer weather. If the fishery is in trouble, the soluti...

Re: St Marks trout thrashing

I'm in favor of closing the season during winter, like has been done in the past. 40 boats sitting on top of trout huddled together in that small of area, just trying to survive the cold, doesn't seem good for the fishery. Not very sporting in my opinion either.... I can't wait until spring when the...

Re: $12 Rod&Reel Redfish Challenge!!

https://youtu.be/neKDFFGk3Dg Day on the flats, poling a low incoming tide here in the Big Bend area. The basis of the challenge is to prove the point that you don't have to have the best gear to get out and catch these fish. Oh, and have you ever heard a 1 bearing reel scream? Well, you're in store...

Cold hands ruining your day on the water?

I picked up a couple pair of these gloves prior to my last trip to the flats. I don't think I would've lasted very long without them with the temp in the 40s and the wind blowing 15 knots. These things are phenomenal at just $7 a pair. Just enough material to keep you warm but not impede your dexter...

Re: Are fishing regulations and enforcement, out of control?

You can subscribe to the FWC distribution list for various management sections like saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing, hunting, etc. They send out newsletters and alerts on issues coming before the commission. They are also soliciting input before making management changes, like they did on sea...

Re: Are fishing regulations and enforcement, out of control?

He's so incensed, he posted twice. What examples can you give to support your claim? What areas of management need improvement? Have you made comments on particular rules/fisheries or attended any FWC workshops or commission meetings?. There are many of us who feel enforcement is lagging, particula...
