Re: Venice La. trip advice

This is our guy and after trying several, I don't see us changing unless he changes up what he does. http://www.blaizecharters.com/ Great guides who are a lot of fun. Everything but the alcohol is included and the food is off the charts. The truth of the matter is that all of the guides over there c...

Re: gobble...gobble..

One of my favorites. I accomplished something I had always hoped to on Saturday. Two birds, one shot. In the past few seasons I have gotten to where I usually pass on those suicidal two year old birds, it is just more fun to tangle with an older bird and I am blessed to be in some mighty fine turkey...

Re: Louisiana Charter trip

I go a couple times each year with clients and this was who we used most recently: http://www.blaizecharters.com/

I will absolutely be a repeat customer.

Great group of guides, and very nice accommodations.

Re: 2020 Fishing Goals

Up my sight fishing game, specifically: Cobia in the spring on the flats Tripletail, would love to catch some big enough to enjoy some "cheek meat" Admittedly, I love to cook em and eat em. Fried is great, but finding new ways to make them taste great is something I really enjoy. The older...

minn Kota Talon

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a talon for my key west 1720. Question for the board, the 10' is only a little more than the 8' and seems worth it. Does anyone on here have a Talon and if so what length are you using? I the reputation of a power pole, but with the limited space in the back...

Re: Southern Customs Latest Builds

Very beautiful work. I was looking around the other day and came across a rod builder, Duce Rods ( https://ducerods.com ). They brag about how they spiral the guides on their casting rods around the blank and how it improves distance and feel. I am curious, as you would know better than I, do you th...

Re: Freezing Trout

Poor Man's (i.e. teacher's) version of vacuum seal. I'm not kidding... Put fillets in 1 gallon bag. Squeeze out as much air as possible, then insert straw in corner of bag. SUCK HARD for 10 seconds, then quickly seal bag. Spit out fish juice. It's not as gross as it sounds and makes a pretty good s...

Re: Louisiana, fishing out of Hopedale for bull redfish!!

We go and stay at Sweetwater every year and do a cast and blast. It is an amazing playground for any outdoorsman.

Going in January for our next trip, but staying at a different place. We wanted a house that has a full kitchen. I will post up a report when we get back.

Re: Prepping for a weekend trip

I was at Alligator point Sunday through Tuesday. Weather was not great to put it mildly. I ran from Alligator harbor down to the marine lab and fished those flats pretty extensively with poor results. Fished around the harbor looking for some reds, but had no luck at all. The wind had the water pret...

Re: great yamaha mechanic saved the day

You don’t have to have it but it’s name has the word safety in it. It is there to stop the motor from cranking while in gear. Now, many years ago, many outboards only had a forward and reverse, no neutral, so they were started in gear. But, I would have it repaired properly if it were my boat. I sh...

One of my favorite places on earth. I lived there for a while back around the turn of the century. Very few places like it on earth. Enjoy your time there.

Re: great yamaha mechanic saved the day

I had the same issue with my 90 Yamaha. I currently just have a zip tie holding it down. Is it necessary to even have that switch? If not, can I just cut the switch off and use a wire nut to put those two wires together?

Re: 8' Power Pole

Thank you for all the feedback. I found a pair of 8' talons for a deal and am going to look at theme Saturday. Storage space on my boat is a premium and I like the idea of the talons being a self contained unit. I am not completely set just yet, but leaning in that direction.

Thanks again.

8' Power Pole

I am about to have one installed on my 1720 Key west. It seems to me that an 8' would be plenty long enough. Anyone have any insights?
