Re: First Deer of the Season
I can find no equal to 'letting the wind out' of a deer with a bow and arrow. With a gun, it honestly got to the point where it was a little ho-hum. But with a bow, even a doe gets me anxious.

Wind forecast in Riverview FL where my brother lives has decreased from 106 mph to 68. Meanwhile Lamont Fl has risen from 47 mph to 63? :pop_1 If I had to guess, it's because she's more over water the more west she moves. This would lead to more consistent speeds over longer distances. Looking at w...
Re: Irma
Questioning whether we should have left. In Mayo, we're fortunate that we have a good generator. Add to that a gas stove. If I can't eat, I'm leaving.

Mayo Fl, US 27 is bumper-to-bumper. People are now using GPS to utilize back-roads. Glad everyone is heeding the warnings as I fear bad things. Everyone be safe/smart.

Re: Shired Island Castnet
Tried Shired again last Saturday. Still learning when to go using tide charts. It was an hour or two before high tide and I just didn't see a lot of fish activity. Got four. Scaled, filleted, and gave to very happy neighbor.

Re: Shired Island Castnet
I could see where that would be the case. Wading SGI bay this summer got a little too deep. What age would you try to start a kid and what size net?lmmoore wrote:I have a 10 and a 8.5 hand made pocket nets with chain weight. 10 works well when throwing off a bridge or peir, 8.5 is a lot more user friendly.

Re: Shired Island Castnet
I take it you were cast netting mullet ? Were you netting from the bridge or a boat ? Mullet is tasty fried or smoked ! Yes on the mullet. Walked out on the bridge, but couldn't see the fish. Waded just north of the dock at the campground. Out from the grass. If I could have stayed another 20 minut...

Shired Island Castnet
Took the daughter yesterday evening to Sherid for her first castnet experience. Was just getting into them when we had to go. Had a blast. Got 17.
