Help, I got skunked on red snapper yesterday.
Yesterday, Friday after Thanksgiving, I went out, targeting gag grouper and red snapper. I got skunked. But the fishing forecast on tides4fishing showed that it was supposed to be a six-fish day. I interpret forecasts like that to mean that fish are supposed to jump out of the water and into my cool...

Re: 2023 State Gag season limited to Sept. 1 – Nov. 10
I wonder if the same "experts" who massively undercounted red snapper populations for years are the same "experts" who are counting gag grouper populations (and lane snapper and red grouper populations). "A three year independent study led by Texas A&M University-Corpus ...

Mexico Beach; Where to Catch Pinfish
I am planning to launch my boat at Mexico Beach for an offshore fishing trip one of these days. When I launch out of Carrabelle or St. Marks, I catch pinfish on the grass flats on the way out. But there doesn't appear to be any grass flats at Mexico Beach. Where should I look for pinfish at Mexico B...

Re: Apalachee Bay Questions
Here is a link to a boat ramp finder. https://atoll.floridamarine.org/dle_gis ... mp_status/
The only ramp I've used in the area is the Battery Park Boat Ramp at the west end of the Apalachicola-Eastpoint Bridge. The ramp is suitable for boats of all sizes.

Re: Reef Fishing advice request
I went fishing for grouper south of Dog Island on Saturday. The bite was slow but we did manage to boat three grouper. The biggest one was 32 inches long. We were mostly using frozen LYs cut in half for bait and we would use a little piece of squid to help the LYs stay on the hook.

Re: Reef Fishing advice request
This time of year, catching pinfish on the flats is not guaranteed. Be sure to take a box of frozen LYs, cigar minnows, or mackerel with you.

Re: Winter pinfish?
I was on the flats on Saturday and was unable to find pinfish as well. Fortunately, the grouper were hungry and took frozen LY's, but the grunts did, too.

Scamp Grouper--Fish I Have Yet to Catch
Fortunately, the list of fish that I have never caught but hope to catch is getting shorter. One fish that I am hoping to get off that list in the near future is scamp grouper. I think that everyone on this forum knows that gag grouper move closer to shore in the cooler water of the fall, but do sca...

Re: off shore grouper
The regulation of gag grouper is different for the state waters off of Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, and Taylor counties than it is for the rest of Florida Gulf state waters. Gag grouper fishing in state waters off Franklin, Wakulla, Jefferson, and Taylor counties is open from April 1 - June 30 and ...

Re: Dog Island
Thanks for the report.
I have not been very successful in catching reds. I'd love to hear what about the area made it seem like a place to target reds?
