The Radio Demons have been Exorcised...

Just came in from the garage. Starting with the easiest fix first I began messing with the radio antenna. The website Wevans posted above says the antenna has to be at least 3' from the radio, so I unbolted the antenna bracket, pulled out some extra cable and stuck the antenna in the rear rod holder...

Chug - Don't worry about it. I will try the second antenna I have and keep messing with it until I figure it out. I removed the 4 inch piece of cable from the old antenna contector you gave me and re-used the connector. That could be the problem as well. The reason I think it may be the antenna is t...

Yes - My wife took my handheld VHF across the front yard and both radios transmitted and received clearly.

It is on St. George Island before you get to the State Park entrance on your left (Bay side of the Island).

Per Chug's instructions earlier in this thread, I hit the WX button last night. The radio immediately went to channel 8, but I can not hear anything. I also tried all the other channels from 8 down to 1. The power to the radio is fine, static occurs until I increase the squelch. I will keep at it un...

Tin Can - We have an office in Melbourne. Whenever I head down that way, I fish with one of our survey crew chiefs who is a fellow fishing fanatic. I can have him call you if you like. He will either take you fishing or recommend a good guide. I would go with him if I had the choice between the two....

Here's the deal -
No weather or any other chatter on any channel.
I can communicate with both ways with somebody else operating my handheld VHF on any channel.

Any suggestions? Anybody know how to check an antenna?

Thanks - Steve

You're getting into an area that will generate much debate...sort of like the old Ford vs. Chevy spat. Everyone is going to claim their rig scoots across dry land and filets the fish when they get back to the ramp. :-D The Sea Pro will run in less than 2' of water, but you better not let off the thr...

Yes, I have been to Benton Shooter's new store. I don't buy much, but it is fun to browse. The Steinhatchee advice is pretty good. I have been running a Sea Pro SV 2100 Bay for the past six years. I would buy the same boat again if I had it to do over. If you purchased your boat up in Tenn, I doubt ...

Tennessee - Scipio Creek Marina is actually up the Apalachicola River a ways from St. George, so you will have to run back down river to get to the flats. There is a closer ramp on St. George if you decide to keep your boat on the trailer at your rental house. I believe the Hiawassee River is the on...

Alrighty then - Chug, you got a instruction manual for this thing? I asked one of the guys at work for the weather channel number and he said channel one or two. Nothing on either of those. I charged my handheld VHF and was able to talk back and forth with my wife across the front yard, so I think w...

Chug - Tried Channel 1 for weather and can not hear anything. Actually, can't hear anything on any channel. It may be due to my boat being blocked on two sides by my garage and house. I am charging my handheld now to see if I can get a signal. I will move the boat and try again, then check the anten...

Cape San Blas or St. George Island will suit you fine. St. George is an island West of Tallahassee an hour or so. You will be able to fish the landward side of the island and let your family enjoy the beach on the Gulf side. St. Joe is a peninsula a little further West. Same situation, Gulf on one s...
