50 State Goal - Nevada Down, 24 States to Go!

26 down, 24 to go... visited Henderson, Nevada, (just outside Vegas) this past weekend to run the inaugural "Running from an Angel" marathon. Pretty interesting race - created as a sister race to the "Running with the Devil" marathon, run on the same course in June when the temps...

Re: Big Trout

Beginner's luck - caught it shortly after moving to the Big Bend area back in 2002. Real credit for the catch goes to fishing bud, Sharkman, for sharing his hard earned knowledge of the area with me. He put lots of kayak miles in before getting his first boat and greatly shortened my learning curve ...

Re: Forum Glitches

Tom, Couple of odd things noticed I haven't seen anyone else mention - - forgive me if I overlooked someone else reporting them. Have noticed some of the older posts have odd symbol type characters showing up where apostrophes, hyphens, or other characters were originally used. Also noticed that a p...

Know I'm really opening up the door to be called crazy now, but that 900+ marathon miles put in is only the miles actually racing... to stay in shape to be ABLE to run the marathons has taken me about 1300 additional miles a year in training. Not sure what emoticon to use after that bit of info shar...

50 State Goal - ½ Way Home (Photo Intense)

After being a recreational runner since high school, decided to do my first marathon in 2003. A USMC reservist at the time, I choose the Marine Corps Marathon and ran the race in memory of a fellow USMC boot camp platoon mate who died in an Osprey crash, Sgt. Jason Buyck. http://i229.photobucket.com...

Bad Behavior, my heartfelt condolences. Have lost about a half dozen dogs in my 40 years and none have been easy. Over the last 10 years or so I've grown especially fond of goofy Great Danes, as they stay playful pups for about 3 years (at least seems like it ;-) ) but they bring sadness quickly too...

Hit-n-miss, hate to give away secret spots but will say it was somewhere between 0 and 40 feet  :-) In all seriousness, wasn't like one of the recent reports where someone reported catching a keeper in 4 to 5 feet but wasn't beyond 40 either. Forgot to give stats on the cobia -- wasn't the big...

9/28 Busy Midshore Trip!

Work and life had gotten in the way of fishing for over a month. With a Friday off from work and the wind looking as mild as it had been in recent weeks, I couldn't put off the fishing fever. My regular fishing bud, Sharkman, is currently working on a Master's degree and has a test on Monday that ma...

Good grief, can't everyone just get along!!!

Been checking this post the last two days and I am having a hard time believing the doggedness (forgive the pun) of some folks that think that they will have the last word on this thread! Can't we all just act like grown adult men and just get along! http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z83/bigbendgyr...

bman, you're right -- it's a 90hp on the back of a 22' Pangamarine Marquesas. Runs about 35mph WOT. What a mess -- Semper fidelis! 1812 here (M1A1 crewman). Ever want a test ride in the Panga, just let me know. I love the ride as it's about as dry as I've experienced, and I've been through a wet Car...

8/3 and 8/4 Memorable Midshore Trip with S.C. Friends

Had an old work buddy and his son down from my home state, South Carolina, this past weekend. My ol' bud was interested in how my Panga has performed for me and I promised him if he made the trip down and the weather cooperated I would give him a test ride and do my best to put him on a few fish. Th...

Sharkman Birthday Trip

Took Sharkman out of Econfina this morning for an inshore/near-shore birthday trip. Could see some clouds from the river but water was nice, making for a beautiful sunrise. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z83/bigbendgyrene/071407RiverSunrisecopy.jpg Once we hit the outer edge of the mouth, the wa...

Took my Dad out of Econfina on Father's Day weekend and we got a big chuckle out of another father/son duo. The son looked about 15 and the Dad obviously offered the son one of his first chances to load their boat back on their trailer after a day on the water. Son looked quite eager to prove his wo...

Tin Can - Need We Worry?

Tin Can - can't help but ask... Seems you and Chalk fish together quite often. Doesn't it scare you each time he goes for tackle and his preference for pink tackle is so visibly evident?!!! :o Good gosh, for a man worried about losing his nads he sure embraces the color pink. I go to Wally World all...
