Re: econfina redfish

You can catch redfish in this area all year. They stay in the same general areas all the time and have to eat in all seasons. September and October are the best months in my opinion, but I've had phenomenal days in the dead of winter around econfina. Target a couple days after a front in January and...

Re: port saint joe info

Welcome to the forum!

I can't offer too much help with your specific question since I rarely fish that area. I have caught some beautiful trout fishing the flats near Black's Island. I'll bet there are others who can help. If all else fails, try working grass shorelines with a gold spoon or topwater.

Re: Fishing St. Marks Area

You've gotten great advice from the others. I would just add that there's not much happening in the nearshore spots (20 - 30 ft.) right now. I was out there recently and the water temp was 46 at the surface and not much activity. Once the water starts to warm up a bit, probably around March, you can...

Re: Crab Traps

If you have the wire traps, I would stay shallow for blue crabs. Bayous, creeks and places like that are pretty good places to try. It would probably be killer just fishing anywhere off the beach in Mud Cove or in Alligator Harbor. If you have stone crab traps, I would go out a ways into 12' - 25' o...

Re: St Marks Info

I would go to one of the public reefs SE of the lighthouse and just start exploring. You're bound to find good bottom if you're patient. Good luck!

Re: Do you actually use your VHF?

I always get a radio check to make sure the VHF is functional if I go offshore any distance. Otherwise, I almost never use the transmitter, but do monitor 16 at all times for the reasons weavans mentions. The inane, background chatter doesn't really bother me that much as long as the volume is at a ...

Re: Fishing Inky

It's been several years, but I stayed at the motel and it was clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. JR's used to have shrimp but I haven't stopped by there in a very long time. The place looked pretty deserted the last time I drove by about a month ago. You would probably just be wasting your...

Re: Non-Ethanol stations?

This one also in Tallahassee - Maxwell's BP station on the east side of town. It's about 2 miles east of I-10 on Hwy 90. I have an uneasy feeling that may change.

Re: SPENDING TIME ON THE WATER AT ST MARKS

Glad you got a chance to go out. I think things are going to get a lot better within the next couple of weeks so you need to get back out again soon. I went out yesterday but spent all my time working a creek. Not much action but I did bring home a nice 26" redfish and a decent sized trout. Tho...

Quick Report - last two trips out of St Marks

I've lurked more than posted because of nothing spectacular to report. The three W's, weather, work and wife, have kept me off the water. My trips have been short and primarily an excuse to get out of the house for a few hours to get some stone crab claws out of a few traps I maintain during the sea...

Re: First post-St. Marks

Welcome and thanks for the report.

I went yesterday and had similar luck although I did catch a nice redfish. But other than that one fish, I didn't get as much as a nibble.

St Marks - last day of grouper fishing

At least we had a good weather day for last day of grouper fishing. I left the fort after paying my $5.00 launch fee :smt011 Made it out to 35' in record time due to calm conditions. The 2 fish limit on gags was in the boat rather quickly so we made a short day of it. A red grouper followed one of o...
