Cobia Humbled us

... bigger. We put out the chum bag and some live pinfish, two on the bottom and two on the surface. And then we proceeded to get our butts kicked by cobia. Big cobia. Six or seven hit the pins, ripped line, and proceeded to humble us with broken lines (50 lb braid), leaders frayed on the artificial ...

First cobia I've seen this year

They're starting to come thru... Spotted 2 big cobia in our chum line yesterday (somewhere within the 9 mile limit off Alligator Point). One hit my buddy's pinfish on the surface but pulled the hook.
Next couple months they're gonna be one of my favorite targets

Tips for Cobia Fishing (New to Big Bend Area)

Hello,

I'm new to the Big Bend area and new to fishing out of this area (Apalachee Bay) in general. I'm transitioning over to Cobia fishing, looking to land my first Cobia and hopefully a keeper at that. I was hoping anyone could share some advice on rigging setups? I don't have a trolling motor or ...

Ssshhhh - cobia

... finally headed offshore. Found cast of thousands (literally 12 boats in a 50 yard radius) at Rotary reef. Watched one poor fellow hook a small-ish cobia, shout to his neighbors, "hey, I think it's a cobia" and then "I don't have a net!". Tragi=comically, fish was lost at boatside, but man and fish ...

Are Cobia good to eat?

... most of the time. So I started using the same spring trolling technique I use on Lake Michigan when headed back to the ramp and started catching cobia. They are really fun to catch! I thought maybe instead of letting them all go I might keep one but if they aren't good eating there's no point in ...

Landed my first cobia today. 42 inches. Quite a story that involved me dropping my net, my gaff, and then almost my rod in the water trying to fight and land this fish.

I decided to go out by myself early this am. 7 ...

my first cobia of 2019

... some pinfish by the bird rack (plus my first bluefish of the season) and headed out to St Marks reef.
Action was a bit slow at first, but this 42"cobia gave me a thrill (especially trying to land it by myself with my trout/redfish net).
Managed a 16" flounder on (shrimp and bucktail) as well, and a ...

Gags & cobia on rotary reef -- need to grow another inch

... a couple gag groupers, one 23 inches on an egg sinker bottom rig with a cutbait finger mullet. Tried a a bucktail with shrimp and caught a couple cobia, one 31 inches. So close! Shoulda stopped to fill the livewell with pinfish on the way out to attract their bigger brothers.

The Sad Tale of Bman and Cobia KARMA

Few months ago Bman asked if I'd help him introduce a few of his Atlanta friends to cobia fishing, with a friendly meet-up on the water where I'd take two of his friends out of one landing and meet his boat and crew on the water after they departed from a different landing. That fateful day was ...

Oh by the way COBIA are here.

... I was throwing and put him on a big spinner with a circle hook.

About two minutes later BAM! he's on, he breaches, yep, big brown polliwog, it's a COBIA! After a LONG back & forth standoff trying to get him close enough to the boat to net, we finally go to net him and he tears right through it like ...

Cobia - who chums, who doesn't

?

I've never caught one. Probably because I've never fished for them but that part is about to change. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. :-D
