Fished St. Marks last 2 Fridays
Man I have not had a two consecutive hard day's fishing with near zero luck in a long time. Last Friday headed out with 18 y/o son just past dawn, threw topwaters and Gulp jigs tipped with shrimp at the usual redfish spots and nothing but two catfish on the jigs. Went out to flats east of lighthouse...

Question about shooting guns from boats
Here's my question--Does anyone know if it is unlawful (as in violating an actual, specific law) to do the following: Go out in your boat off St. Marks, heading southeast past the stake line (so you are outside the boundaries of the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge but less than 9 miles out so you...

Re: I scouted St. Marks for scallops on June 30th
I went Friday (July 7th) with a friend and we scouted all over the place from the surface, didn't see ANY scallops, so we went to the usual flotilla area (east of the lighthouse) and anchored and went in. After about an hour and a half, picking up anchor and drifting with the boat, we got a whopping...

Re: St marks river
I got a slot red Friday on a bar before you get to the lighthouse, at about 8:30 am, dead high tide. After that went out to the flats and managed only two barely legal trout over the next six hours.

Hint
What fish looks a whole lot like a shark when you look at it from above? No dorsal fin cutting the surface when it took my plug, odd I thought ... Why could I see my plug sticking out of its mouth, when a shark's mouth is slung back a ways underneath its head? My wails of anguish at losing this fish...

Had a big shark hit a topwater plug yesterday . . .
So I'm on the flats east of the lighthouse in about 3 or 4 feet of water yesterday morning, it was cloudy overcast with a little wind blowing and the water looked like a giant sheet of wrinkled aluminum foil laid out shiny side down. Even the best polaroid sunglasses couldn't cut through that glare ...

I scouted St. Marks for scallops on June 30th
I went to the usual areas as well as my GPS'd 2016 hot spots in my usual pre-season reconnaissance. (Man it was insane last year, there were tons of them.) Though the water pretty mush resembled iced tea, it was clear iced tea, and wasn't cloudy with stirred up silt or anything) except for one area....

Re: St Marks Lighthouse Advice
I am new to Redfish catching but not to the St. Marks fishing scene. I posted a few times in the past year or two asking "how to catch a Redfish?" and got good advice, and now I am pretty confident of being able to "limit out" on Redfish nearly every trip, LOL. Generally, creep q...

New Google Maps satellite view - better than last
I just noticed that Google very recently updated it's satellite pics on the Google Maps site, and boy the pics of the St. Marks inshore areas are just excellent. You can tell the water was clear and it was low low tide. Great clarity of the rocks in the Rock Garden area--many exposed--and oyster bar...

Re: Video of Topwater Frog Hits
Excellent vids BBG! Love to see stuff like that. I love frogs 'cause they're pretty much weedless and cast far, hate 'em 'cause it's so hard to get a solid hookup with 'em. The thing that will make me near swearing and throwing the rod in is when you're fishing a sinking plastic worm or creature bai...

Re: st marks scallops after the storm
I'm looking forward to doing at least one more scallop trip as well. I'm also curious to see if the usual hotspots still have decent scallop numbers. Usually late season scallops or noticeably bigger than early-season. Been tied up with construction at my house and otherwise the heat, and then the d...

How far from shore is the St. Marks stake line?
I'm guessing 3 miles, but am not sure if that's correct, and I'm also not sure if it IS 3 miles from "shore," whether it's from the actual shore (grass line) or some point further inland.
Anyone know?

Re: Advice Please: St. Marks or Keaton for Scallops?
Get thee to St. Marks, hang a left as you exit the river mouth/lighthouse channel, head that direction (east) for a spell until you see what looks like what the Germans saw when they looked on the horizon of the English Channel as dawn broke on June 6, 1944, go to that general area, and if you don't...
