Snapper fishing
Went out twice the week before last and again this past Sat. Haven't had any issue getting our limit in the 65' of water with fish going 20"-29". Just curious what depth others are fishing and how it's been.

Re: Preferred retrieve rate for lures
For inshore use I would personally go with a reel that retrieves 36" per turn vs something less. A lower gear is good to have when fighting bigger fish but not as important on trout and reds. Also a lot of times when fishing you will spot a fish but before you can make a cast you need to reel i...

Re: Forecast is wrong!!!
As much as I wanted to target Snapper over the weekend I just didn't think the weather would permit it. Ended up taking my creek boat to an area that generally holds reds. I also brought a bag of frozen LY's along we had cast netted a few weeks earlier. Now I know it's not glamorous but with the con...

Re: Ideal fishing conditions for Apalachee Bay
A lot depends on how you like to fish and what you like to fish for. Even inshore. For me personally, I like to sight fish for reds. The ideal conditions for that is having the water level under 2' , wind under 5mph, water temp at 60 plus and no clouds. Fishing for trout on the flats it seams like t...

Contracting the Coronavirus
It seems like everyone is trying to avoid the corona virus but I was thinking about taking the opposites approach. Tying to contract it. I know a lot of folks will think this isn’t the wisest choice but I see several advantages to doing so. First I am 45, in relatively good health and have a very re...

Re: Single hook vs. treble hooks on lures?
I'm not a fan of treble hooks and always try and remember to bend the barbs down if I'm fishing with them. When fishing single hooks on sub surface lures I've noticed the hookup percentage increases if you set it by reeling vs the traditional way of snatching the rod. I haven't really tried them on ...

Came across this the other day and thought it was an interesting set up for land base live bait fishing.

Any insight into what they mean by "strange things"? It just seams odd that they would use those words.

Re: Red snapper management possible changes
they had a tag program in OR when I lived there. It was for steelhead and salmon and worked pretty good. You needed to mark what you caught on your license as soon as you landed it. If you were caught not doing so the ticket was pretty hefty. The difference being it's a lot easier to see a FCW boat ...

Re: Oil wells near the Dead Lakes, Apalachicola/Chipola Rive
For those that fish offshore the Exxon Template is an old oil test rig. Not sure how long it has been there but I remember going to it 25 years ago. I would hate to see our area look like southern LA our have any fracking in this region either.
