A big part of trolling is how deep do you want your presentation. Water speed determines the depth a lure runs at. If you use gps speed as your guide, you will need to constantly adjust for current to hit your depth, which is going to usually be just a guess. RPMs work just as well. Thanks grim ree...

So Karst, what was the final answer from all the advice you got about trolling? Well JF, I guess I will just let youall more experienced anglers duke it out for a while longer, as you can see there is not :smt014 too much concensus as of yet... My take-aways so far are this: 1) Troll over...

Steinhatchee offshore - 2nd trip
Monday morning, Dec. 10. 8:45 and still a little foggy. Ventured out of Steinhatchee with some some frozen sardines and squid, and a couple of trolling lures to try to do our best to reduce the grouper population by a little. No grouper for us this day, but we did catch a cooler full of black sea ba...

5 mph should be 5 mph. It is surface speed. If you are traveling with current you use less throttle to maintain 5 mph. If you travel against current you use more throttle to maintain 5 mph. 5 mph is 5 mph regardless of the resistance of the water. I guess I don't understand :hammer: . Isn't my conc...

Tackle store in Perry?
Can someone point me at a decent place I can get a reel worked on and also I need some replacement rod tips, etc. Preferably in Perry, but Live Oak or Branford would be ok too? Thanks.

4-6 mph depending on the current. Remember, if the current is against you at 2 mph, and your GPS says 5, the lure is running at 7mph in the water. This past Monday, we trolled a lot of miles in 30 ft. of water (about 20 mi. East out of Steinhatchee), but didn't get the first hit while trolling. We ...

Thanks  I remember those converter boxes now that you remind me. I am not so good with a soldering iron :hammer: , so I was trying to avoid putting the FM type plug on it if someone told me it was not worth it. Now to the fun stuff of cutting a hole in the dashboard for mounting that FM rad...

8 Ft. VHF antenna as FM antenna?
Before I cut off this nice VHF connector and try it on an FM radio, can anybody offer an opinion if it will perform decently for FM? A friend gave me the VHF antenna and I would like to hook it up to the FM/CD on my river boat.
