Good going. Great to see someone catching. Those posts have been few & far between lately.
Hope you & Luc are both doing well.
We will be down in a couple of weeks to try it out. Hope to give some good reports then.
Good report....sounds like a good time.

Re: St.Marks Reds
Try wading the oyster bars with live bait. Usually works for us. You just have to be persistent.

Re: trouble finding bait
Yeah, Harmsway & Salty Gator are spot on. LY is what we have called the scaled sardine for a long while now. It is what we were told they were by our mentors. We have since learned better. Still make the mistake of calling them LY's. We caught scaled sardines a couple of weeks ago, not LY's. The...

Re: trouble finding bait
We use a mixture of jack mackeral & oat meal. The oat meal helps hold the jack mac meat together. Anchor boat in 3 to 4 ft of water, over grass, then spread the chum mix. throw about a half dozen handfuls of the chum out. Then wait about 4 or 5 minutes. then throw another couple of handfuls out ...

Re: trouble finding bait
We netted a surprising number of LY's a couple of weeks ago in the grass south of the lighthouse. We got more LY's than pins.
We chum them up then throw the castnet over the chum spread.

Actually, it's not my boat, it is my buddy Bart's boat. It is an 18' Key Largo CC w/ a 115 HP Merc. His boat has been "stripped down" for how we fish. Chrome railing on the front removed, trolling motor removed, Captain's seat removed, the baitwell in front of the console is now a hold &am...

St. Marks - Another late post - June 6, 7
Sorry about the late post from last weekend. Friday morning got off to a decent start with Captain Bartman loading the livewell with a good selection of LY’s & pins. Friday morning had westerly winds, H2O temp @ 81 F, pleasant for wading. The incoming tide was lazy for the first 4 hours…slow to ...

Re: Ecofina - Wednesday
Yeah, every time I think we have figured out the tides & moon, we get handed a day that yields only 25' of action w/ live bait when we thought the conditions were much more favorable. Oh we'll, that's why it's called fishing instead of catching. The weather means everything, though. You can have...

St. Marks - Late post April 25 - 27
Sorry for the late post. Our inaugural 2013 excursion was a mixed bag. On Thursday, 3 of us fished the oyster bars hard in a light, cold rain to land 3 reds, 29”, 27” & 25” as well as 1 trout 19” and a couple of black drum. Water clarity wasn't very good but temperature for wading was tolerable....

Late post - End of August - Reds
It is that time of year. We finally got to get back down to St. Marks in pursuit of the redfish. We’ve all had a fishing jones on for a while. Four of us fished off 2 boats. After getting the day’s bait via cast nets, we split up to see which of our spots would be the most productive. We stayed in c...

Re: How to predict the best time and day to go fishing?
We kept a log for a few years. We noted moon, tides (times & height/change), sunrise, sunset, wind conditions, as well as a couple of other condtions we sometimes consider pertinent. It helped us determine the optimal times to plan a 3 or 4 day fishing trip. I also like going fishing whenever I ...

Canal bait
Has anyone either caught, seen or heard about bait (LY's) in the Lighthouse canal this year?
A couple of years ago (2010), we found them in there but not last year or earlier this year.
We are headed down in a couple of weeks and wondered if it would be worth our time to venture in there.
