Re: Anyone fishing?
We hit Keaton beach two weekends ago. Did a bunch of drifts around and beyond the racks and ran down to big grass key also. Tough fishing for sure, we got three trout all keepers, one Spanish, a few under size black sea bass, and cut off a few times by sharks. We re-rigged for shark and a big one ca...

Re: Water clarity around Keaton
Try talking to the biologists about the population. The counts are just barely holding on in a lot of areas. It's right there in back and white. An example would be that Taylor was 60 in 2016 and 19 this year, Dixie was 66 in 2016 and 20 this year. The graph shows both waffling around the yellow lin...

Re: Water clarity around Keaton
Went out on sunday and it was dark. Got into some 3-4' water and the bottom really took some work to see clearly. I also noticed the water in the last 1 foot of water was really cold. Refreshing but I can't imagine the scallops liked it. Found very few. We caught 3 keeper trout and a spanish and cal...

You have to at the very least bleed them out as much as you can before throwing in the cooler. I soak in buttermilk , gives a nice rich flavor.

Re: Dark Island ramp
watch the tide is an understatement! At the mouth of the canal and the first stretch out is very shallow at the wrong part of the tide. I've hit it wrong in my jon boat and struggled.

Re: Scallop survey
I was trying to calculate last year what the difference in number per gallon for the smaller size scallop that were common due to the early opening. It seemed to be 10-15 more scallops per gallon . I am not meaning the supper small ones that hopefully people put back. My thoughts are that the total ...

Re: Scallop survey
Those numbers are terrible when you see that in 2016 both Taylor and Dixie county's were in the 60's . Every area is in trouble the only one climbing is citrus and it's climbing out of a very low point.

Re: Scalloping Keaton beach 6/23/18
Yes It moves much faster for the people that cut in line! Wow that's disappointing. So the people that come to the ramp tenth in line but drop someone around the corner is in the right? Am I understanding you both correctly? Another example would be, you drive in the 75 ramp lane until you can beat ...

I expected it to be this bad, great management of our resources. Opening early and leaving the harvest amount were they have been despite seeing a trend in the last few years.

Re: Scalloping Keaton beach 6/23/18
The ramp wasn't to bad for this time of year. When we got there we were 6th in line, had 3 coming out also so it was a bit of a wait. Then just as i was up two trailers were in line ahead of me and two boats from about 8 boats behind me motored up and loaded. Obviously they dropped someone off aroun...

Re: Scalloping Keaton beach 6/23/18
We went out Sat. for the first time this year and the first 1 1/2 was tough. We are early to the area so didn't have many other boats to show where it's decent. Moved three times for that first amount, couldn't see into the water because of the wind. Many areas that were good last year were poor. Fi...

I have always just made a mark on both the prop and hub and water test it and see if it changed.

Re: scallop season
I looked two weeks ago when I was in Keaton and didn't see any. The water was a deep tea brown color both north and south of the channel. I am not sure if I'm waiting to hear the reports or jumping in and trying this weekend.

Re: Scallop season only a month away. .
No you are not the only one that thinks it a pita! Way to many boats, crammed into every ramp near by, the damage to the grasses and the stressed out fish. If they reduced the total boat take, it may shorten the time people are out there. That may make it easier for FWC to notice and catch the ones ...
