Re: Tarpon Fishing
The guides generally want you to fly fish for the migrating Tarpon. They will eat a well presented fly WAY more often than any other bait or lure, live bait included. That may seem hard to believe but it is a fact. That does not mean you can't catch one on bait yourself. Putting out a spread of pinf...

Re: Anyone going scalloping??
It's time for me to post my annual "why I hate scallop season" grumpy old man rant.....but I'll skip it this year. It really used to bug me when I ran my Gheenoe LT-25 out of the Lighthouse. The floating grass would be insane with hundreds of boat anchors tearing up the bottom. I cou...

Re: Aluminum vs Fiberglass for our area
East of the St. Marks lighthouse = Aluminum. But not just any pos Aluminum boat, welded army tank like a Sea Ark if you want to play in the rocks. West of the St. Marks Lighthouse = Fiberglass flats or bay boat. Any Aluminum boat will beat your brains out and everybody will laugh at you. Like ...

Re: 2022 CCA STAR Tournament
It appears to me from looking at the Facebook post that there were some shenanigans going on with that first tagged red caught in Och. Bay. At first, he said he was registered for the tournament but "didn't have the measuring device". You have 24 hours to submit a pic of the fish on the de...

Re: Apalachee Bay Questions
You are getting some good advice. Fish SJ Bay from the Park Ramp. It's a protected easy ramp and a really neat place to fish. Lots of clear water and pretty sand out on the tip. Usually protected water and good family fishing. No rocks or really anything to run over other than it's surprisingly shal...

Re: 2022 CCA STAR Tournament
Yeah, I felt kind of silly standing in front of West Marine holding a barely legal little red and taking pictures like I just caught a world record. lol
But that's what the STAR officials wanted to do to verify the tag in person.

Re: 2022 CCA STAR Tournament
Man, time sure flies. 5 years ago June 1, 2017. It was the first day of Snapper season that year and I was minding my own business fishing the shoreline along HW98 in my old but faithful little red Sea Pro. My Dad had recently paid for a new Power Pole and I was putting it to good use stopping every...

Re: Lowrance Navionics
You need to buy a new map chip from Navionics. They have two levels, plus and platinum, the website shows the differences. I have the basic one in my Elite 7 on my Pathfinder. It works very well for my needs, mostly inshore. I'll bet the plus version will be all you need. $149 bucks.

Reel Repair by Jim customer review
Last month I dropped off some of my spinning reels to Jim Hanshaw at Reel Repair by Jim. They were long overdue for some attention. I have always cleaned and serviced my own reels, but these new fangled spinners are complicated critters, so I sought professional help. Jim was a pleasure to talk with...

Re: What am I doing wrong
So that's where the fish are......Stoney Bayou......thanks bud. Me, all my friends, my family members, and about 642 other fishermen who have access to this forum internet thing will be there this weekend. I'll bet the fishing will be great. If you want to help someone with site specific info you ca...

Anybody who went fishing at Daylight on Saturday morning has my respect because it was not fit for man nor beast. IMHO
You guys are hardcore.....I will give you that.
