Re: Piney Island, Oyster Bay?

There's good water around the oyster bars until they are covered by the tide. After that the top part of the bar can sneak up real quick. It can go from about 8' deep to 1' in just a few feet. If you go around the island at low rising tide like Redbelly said, using your GPS, the mounds, and the way ...

Re: anchor pole reinvented

I made the one I use on my aluminum boat from a 6' - 5/8" galvanized ground rod. Only I drilled a hole at the top end for a shackle that I tie the rope to. When I used it up around Charleston I could stick it in 10' of water if the bottom was soft by chucking it like a spear towards the bottom....

I've docked my boat there for a week or two a few times, and the folks there have always been more than fair and friendly.

Just for clarification, the motor in the photo isn't a part of the rig as he's selling it?

Re: Don't throw back those yellowtail jacks!

In the book I have, the Yellow Jack and the Jack Crevalle seem to have very similar body shapes and fin shapes. The Yellow Jack's eye is farther from the snout and the lower jaw isn't as flat as the lower jaw on the Crevalle. I'd say the main difference in the descriptions is going to be seen when y...

Re: Don't throw back those yellowtail jacks!

I have a book on Gulf Fishes and Food Value is a part of the description of all of the fishes. Yellow Jacks are described as having GOOD food value. Jack Crevalle are described as having NONE. Amberjack are rated VERY GOOD. I was surprised by the food value description of Atlantic Spadefish which I ...

Re: 6/28 Rotary Reef report

Up off SC they use cannonball jellyfish to catch spadefish. I've never done it but this article shows how it's done.

Re: Trailer Lights

Don't forget that the trailer lights have to have a good ground connection all the way to the battery of the vehicle doing the towing. You can have good ground connections between the lights and the trailer frame and then lose it at the plug or where the plug wire connects to the tow vehicle. Traile...

Somethings fishy about that price for that rig. It was $10K higher yesterday.
With that being said......my current offer is $4500.00.

Re: Wiring for Trolling Motor

The current flow itself has to be a consideration as well. A 12volt 36lb thrust motor is going to draw up to 44 amps through that wire. You need #6 wire for 50 amps of current per code. Just because it's a short length to the switch doesn't matter. Fuses are really short lengths that melt when the c...

Re: Interesting articles on global warming

Humans are changing the face of the planet, there is no question of that, and it's possible that our presence and our activities are affecting the atmosphere and the weather. However I don't necessarily agree that we humans are "messing it up". The earth is resilient, that has been proven ...

Re: Interesting articles on global warming

I think the premise of climate change being affected by the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere can be used to reduce the dependence the world has on burning fossil fuels. I also believe that oil production cannot continue to provide a relatively cheap form of fuel indefinitely, so for that reason I s...
