Re: Red snapper management possible changes
I also received the survey, the basis of my survey was a "preferred management plan" out of a select set of choices so pick choice A,B, or C one example was A - longer season with shorter fish limit and 1 snapper per day/person B - Shorter season longer fish limit and 2 per person/day and ...

Re: Favorite knots
There is a phone app called Animated Knots by Grog that does a nice job of categorizing knots by application i.e. fishing, camping, boating, climbing etc. very nice for learning new knots and finding a knot for something you rarely tie, its stop action animation so you can clearly see how the line i...

Re: Mangrove snapper
I was thinking of tryin some full moon night fishing. Not sure I should be running far enough offshore to get to 80’ in my little bay boat though lol at least not alone anyway. I stay to stay around 30 or less miles from shore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 80' at Mexico Beach is not that far ...

Re: Mangrove snapper
I cut and pasted this from the Fwc website. It is illegal to use jigheads ( or any non circle hook) for snapper in Florida when using natural ( live or dead bait)..... bbb doesn’t need any more trouble with Mr Green Jeans. In Florida, it is required to use non-offset circle hooks when fishing...

Re: Emergency MMSI — how to test if GPS & radio are linked??
My current radio shows the GPS coordinates on the display, seems like my original radio showed GPS OK or something similar on one of the screens to show that the radio was receiving the GPS input.

Re: Most accurate weather forecast site
Apparently its my boat trailer, all I have to do is hook it up to the truck to generate a nice mass of thunderstorms in the gulf :-? I argued with the TLH NOAA marine forecast site all day yesterday and into the night, radar was clear for hundreds of miles out into the gulf at midnight, no way it wo...

Re: Marine Radar Recommendations
I'm running the XM Weather system on my Garmin chartplotter/NMEA 2000 network. I added it after the wife an I got caught in a nasty lightning storm otherwise she wasn't going back out (and I also run offshore on good days most recent was 35 miles out- slick calm and some good snappers & grouper ...

Re: Inshore fisherman looking to head out further
I was over in MB last year and cracked a couple of eyes on rods for basic bottom fishing (I told them to stop reeling up to the swivel  ) I found a couple of Penn Mariner rods with SS guides at BWO, very comfortable to hold, my wife loves them because the triangular shaped section forward of t...

Re: 7/6-7/7
I don't know but I can can eat filet mignon way cheaper than I can eat ARS or gag that I catch... course that would probably apply to trout and redfish if you want to count the boat, rods, tackle etc. I remind myself that I fish for recreation not food

Re: 7/6-7/7
Alarm went off at 4:30 am wife and I were hoping to get another snapper trip in but one look at the radar and I turned off the lights and went back to sleep. I did make some nice challah french toast, scrambled eggs and bacon while watching the radar blow up in the gulf. I kept getting text updates ...

Re: Capsized
I believe the closest USCG stations for the Big Bend is Yankeetown to the east and Panama City to the west. Helo would need to come from Clearwater/St Pete area or maybe Pensacola? So if they happen not to be in the area where you are in distress its going to be awhile. I carry a PLB for life threat...
