Snapper Depth???
Last Monday, June 25 I caught decent fish in 75’, in a 20’ cc. A local guide that I trust told me he was still catching them in state waters (50’) but he has some better numbers than I do. IMO, if you are trying to stay closer I recommend the artificial reefs, like OAR Wakulla and/or the Franklin/Ap...

Re: Shallow snapper?
Not personally since the regular rec season opened. A couple of weeks ago, yes, in 35-40’. It wouldn’t surprise me if the higher profile artificial reefs might hold some decent ones in 50’, even now. I haven’t made it out to drop a line yet since opening day due to the weather. Next week, god willin...

Re: New to the area..
Although it might seem obvious, the depth issue is highly dependent on where you are fishing, water temperature, time of year, and fresh water flow circumstances. This affects where bait is holding, and predators do follow the bait. While not always true (see above), once the water is 80 degrees (li...

Re: What else can I do to avoid fuel problems and repairs?
The advice already given is spot on. I have a DF 150 and the number one best move was and is non ethanol fuel, always. Also, if possible, pick a vendor that sells a lot of fuel. That way it’s fresh when you pump it. I use marine stabil. BTW, I have had no fuel problems with my Suzy after going non e...

Re: New to the area..
Lord. A 45’? That’s something. And 425s? Lucky you. EJ Yep, part of the growing trend. Jupiter just came out with a 43, Regulator/Scout/Yellowfin have 42s and others in production. All with a price tag of $1MM give or take for a center console. :o The 425 Yammies are the answer to the 400 Verado. A...

Re: New to the area..
Nice choice. Grady makes a fine boat. I'm going to test the new 45 with Yamaha 425s in August. Should be fun. For bait, the Moorings and C-Quarters in Carrabelle or Lanark Market in Lanark. Have fun rigging and outfitting the new ride. Lord. A 45’? That’s something. And 425s? Lucky you. EJ Sent fro...

Re: New to the area..
Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Unfortunately I'm probably gonna miss the snapper bite this year. Just bought a boat this past weekend (24' Grady White w/ twin 150 Yammies) and I want have it equipped till sept. I'm having to start over from scratch. Don't even have the first rod and reel. Where ...

Re: Bit the shock tippet
Uh huh. We're going to need a bigger shovel, too. Of course. “They were jumping in the boat” Is a good one. FWIW, twice I have had fish jump in the boat. Once Spanish mackerel, and once a king. Both on the way out, and both days proved incredible. Each were boxed carefully and added to the su...

Re: New to the area..
Welcome aboard. You're just in time for the red snapper madness. Do a search of posts by EddieJoe, Tidedancer and others. They fish that area a lot and you'll be able to glean some good tips/intel. Sk Thanks for the endorsement, but lately I feel like I’m starting over. Old age, sez me. Tournament ...

Re: Cell Reception South of Alligator Point
Verizon seems to have the best coverage off the local coastline. On a side note, you will be able to see the weather coming for miles around you. We watched from Dog Island last weekend while two storms moved on to shore. One around Carabelle and one toward Shell Pt. Both storms did not dump rain u...

Anyone know?
BTW, the 10’ Blade power pole works very well, but offshore not so much.
