Re: Fishing Saturday 4/12/14
What's your approach to bleeding fish? I've been meaning to do that on mackerel and blues and maybe sharks, and I know you can clip a gill raker and they bleed out, but do you put them in a separate box or string them and let them bleed back into the water?

Re: braid knots
I wish I'd kept track of the brands of braid that have knotted up on me, but since I've used many different brands I think it's just the nature of the stuff. They probably all do it because it's so limp. Try to keep it untwisted by occasionally changing lures or trolling the bare line behind a boat ...

Re: Grouper or Redfish?
I'd love to go for grouper this week. If anyone wants an extra hand to share the fuel cost PM me.

Re: Flats Explosion
Wind is rocking the pines right now (Wednesday afternoon), but after the front passes through this weekend TWC says the wind will be calm for three or four days. How long does it take the sea to settle down after a northerly blow? Does Tuesday look like a good bet?
Re: I'm ready
I sent a PM but it may not have gone through to ifishtoo. I'm a retired 75 year old who owns a 17 foot flats boat with 90 HP that runs smoothly and a 24 volt trolling motor. I'd be willing to partner up with you to go out to a nearby launch, from Lanark to St. Marks on a week-day if the wind isn't t...

Re: Van Staal Reels
From what I heard Pure Fishing has bought most of the rod and reel manufacturers and most of their production is in China. Zebco was one of the first to go, and Penn is another one wholly owned. They haven't gobbled up Shimano yet, but it would be smart to find out where the reel is made. I've heard...

Re: Hook Extractor
Thanks, guys. I got the ACR, the long one. Kind of expensive for what it is, but I can appreciate the distance when working around a shark's mouth!

Hook Extractor
I wonder if anyone has a favorite tool for getting hooks out, especially circles. Cabelas makes one that claims to twist the hook out when you squeeze it. I probably will be using it for redfish, bluefish, the usual inshore fish, plus sharks. The other day I had a 7/0 circle on a wire leader with cu...

Re: Big Reds at Alligator
I'd need a boat to get to the tip, right? Or else walk a long way? I'm looking for the best spot for casting from the beach.

Big Reds at Alligator
Any advice on what part of the beach would be best to try the surf for bull reds on a negative low tide and then incoming?
Toward the rocky first part or down toward the tip, not having to walk a long way?

Re: Alligator Point
This is way out of date for the previous posts, but I was just down there and talked to some guys from Arkansas who will be there for a couple of more weeks, fishing for and tagging sharks of all varieties. They're across the street from the marina and have shelters set up on the beach. If you want ...

Re: Best place to go right now?
Yesterday, we put in at Mash's Sand, and we caught some reds, trout, jacks and hard-heads east of Ochlockonee bridge on finger mullet, little pinfish, Chum spoons and a vibrax spinner (with Gulp mullet) near break-lines. Some birds were feeding on baitfish. I was surprised that there weren't more bi...

Fiddler Crabs
I know the targeted fish for this bait is sheepshead. What other fish go for these little buggers? Are there any cases where you'd remove the big pincher? Does a dead one still catch fish? I know sheepshead will hit a dead one, but how about other fish?

Re: Panacea 6/1 Report
Were you fishing inside Ochlockonee Bay, inside the bridge? I found those balls in a 19 inch speckled trout the other day. I just pulled them out and fried it up. I don't think that kind of worm damage is going to hurt the filet any.
