Re: Opinions, please, on Garmin ECHOMAP Plus g3 64cv
Thanks again, silverking. I remember now that you have a Garmin. I'm leaning now toward the Garmin, and I need to decide soon before the sale ends. As I noted in another post, I first have to make space on the console. You also have been helpful with that. I wasn't familiar with Florida Marine Track...

Opinions, please, on Garmin ECHOMAP Plus g3 64cv
There's a good sale on this Garmin unit, and I'm considering it among others. I'm replacing an old Lowrance Elite, which it took me a while to fully learn and appreciate. Can those of you who have this Garmin or a similar model tell me about the learning curve? Is it complicated to set up for basic ...

Re: Creating space for fishfinder
Thanks, Silverking. Those are good options. Ram was just the first I heard about, but it sounds like there are many more choices.

Creating space for fishfinder
Has anyone used a Ram mount or something similar to raise a fishfinder/chartplotter so it would fit in a tight space? I heard about the Ram from a boat dealer. I'd also like to hear other ideas. I have a width of about 9 inches on the right side of my console to work with. But the fishfinders I like...

Put Fishbites and Gulp back in package?
I noticed that a Fishbites Fightin' Club package said not to put back used baits. Is this true for Berkley Gulp too? I've always figured if they were intact, I would save them for next time.

Simrad Cruise
Any experience or opinions out there on Simrad's new Cruise series of fishfinders/plotters? From what I have read and heard, they're no-frills and fairly low-end. But the one that I looked at seemed to have the features I need. It's in my price range as well as my experience range. Truth be told, I ...

Re: Can power pins on fishfinder be repaired?
BTW: Is the Calloway ramp back to normal yet? I went by the ramp yesterday, and it looks good. Several people had used it for the day. One of the floating docks that had broken loose has now been pushed out of the way, and a new shorter one is in its place. The other dock and the ramp are in great ...

Re: Can power pins on fishfinder be repaired?
Juan, the Callaway ramp looks good. See a later post for details... apologies for the duplication.

Re: Can power pins on fishfinder be repaired?
That’s good information, Old Dog. Thank you. From what you and others have said, the Hook series just doesn’t measure up to the old Elites. The new Elites are a little out of my price range. But I looked yesterday at a Simrad Cruise 7 that I really liked. It’s user-friendly and maybe more importantl...

Re: Can power pins on fishfinder be repaired?
Thanks, Old Dog. You’ve also given me good advice before. Do you mind sharing what you didn’t like about the Hook 7? Was it a lack of features you need? Poor performance? From what I’ve read, it’s more an entry level unit. That’s the same level where I am despite all these years.

Re: Can power pins on fishfinder be repaired?
Thanks, Juan. That’s a good caution about the Hook series. I’ve moved from Callaway, so I’m not sure about the ramp. I’ll swing by and check it out.

Re: Can power pins on fishfinder be repaired?
Thanks, Silverking. I've tried straightening the pins with no luck. I took the back off of the unit to see if I could straighten them from the other side. But they're part of a printed circuit board, and there's no way to get to them. I have seen the Lowrance Hook series online, but I haven't been a...
