Re: Yates Creek Wednesday Nov. 6th
If you bass fish, you know how a carolina rig is set up. It's the same way. About 13 to 14 inch 20lb floracarbon leader, with a 3/0 hook, a barrel swivel on the other end, a 1/16 bullet lead above the swivel. I use bullet leads because it slides through the grass better. Fish it like a plastic worm....

Yates Creek Nov. 7th
Almost a repeat of yesterday. On the water at 7:30am. Tide rising. Water temp 68 degrees. Fished in two to four feet. Only fished two hours, because we had our limit of ten fish, with two over twenty. No keeper reds today. Lots of under size trout and reds.
Another fine trip with my wife.

Re: Yates Creek Wednesday Nov. 6th
Not the way I cut it. Not as much angle, and split it down the middle making two baits. I've got a picture posted somewhere back in older post. I learned it about sixty years ago from my grandfather, who raised me on the Aucila River. He worked his whole life as a commercial fisherman, and guide on ...

Yates Creek Wednesday Nov. 6th
Left out with my wife about 7:30am. A bit windy 9 knots. Water temp 68 degrees. Clear, very clear. Tide rising. Fished with shiner tails riged carolina style. Only fished about three hours. Lost count of how many shorts. Ended up with six trout and two reds Great day on the water. (Tried to post pic...

Re: Pier Fishing
Yes there were plenty of mullet. I threw my net for a while. Caught ten fairly good size grass mullet. I have a little trouble throwing over the new railings. A little tall for me. The fellow who was with me had no problem throwing.

Re: Pier Fishing
Hey Reb. The net I made is just a regular landing net that I put an eight foot pole on to extend the length. Used to be able to reach your net under the rail to reach the fish. Now, there is wire covering the side of the railing, so you have to go over the top rail to land a fish. One of the things ...

Re: Boat Title Bill Goes to Governor
Guess I'm in the dark about this bill. What's it about? Florida already has a title requirement on boats

Re: Big Bend Fishing
I have a great view of this commercial fishing deal. I'm an avid sport fisherman who was raised on the Aucila River by my grandfather who was a Mullet fisherman, along with his four sons who also were commercial fishermen. I've seen first hand what a gill net can do to a school of Reds or how many j...

Re: Pier Fishing
She had another nice trout and a Spanish hooked, just couldn't lift them up onto the pier. Both pulled off. I have a special landing net I made for the pier with an eight foot handle. Just forgot to bring it. She also managed to get four nice crabs up. Just enough for her stir fried dish she made fo...

Re: Pier Fishing
Don't mean to beat a dead horse by opening an old post, but I just wanted to show a picture of a fish my wife caught yesterday off the Keaton Beach pier. It's a 19 inch trout caught on shiner tails under a cajun thunder. Anyone who my be land locked ought to give our local piers a chance. You just m...

Re: First time in my kayak
I have a Brooklyn Coastal Cruiser. It's a tandem because most of the time my wife is with me. It does fine with just one person also It's 12 foot 9 inches long and 34 inches wide. The best part is it has a 770 pound weight capacity. Just weighs 70 pounds. It also has the lawn chair type seats. Not s...

Re: Keaton Beach 4/20/19
ddb, I rode down to the creek that morning. Definitely way too much wind for my ole Stumpnocker and me. The water was not that dirty around Yates. Pretty chilly out there?
Surprised y'all did that good considering the wind and cool water.

Re: Pier Fishing
It is wheel chair accessible. The new pier is really nice. Wider, higher railings with wire for kids and pets safety.
