Re: 2021 Scallops
My buddy and I were out scalloping the weekend before last. Had dive flag up. Couldn’t spot my buddy so I climbed back into the boat. As soon as I spotted him I was chef two boats pass within 20 feet of him well within 300 ft from the boat Both were off plane but making way well above idle. We were ...

Re: 2021 Scallops
Went out St. Marks today and got around a hundred scallops with two snorkelers. However they were so small that It was only a half cup of meat. And I threw back a couple dozen little ones as well. Should have thrown them all back and got them again in August. When they are this small all the fun is ...

Re: 2021 Scallops
I learned the hard way to put the scallops on top of but not in the ice. On top, they open up and are compliant. In the ice they lock shut and each one has to be pried open with a knife.

Re: rocky Creek to Pepperfish Key
FWC has a great website with info on boat ramps. https://atoll.floridamarine.org/dle_gis/javascript/boat_ramp_status/ The site provides a map showing where ramps are and provides info on fees, parking, lanes, and other pertinent info. You can zoom in and actually see the ramp. For Cow creek, it read...

Re: Windy day at Keaton. 5/15/21
Keep my distance. Stay downwind. And that will keep me from feeling a 6 oz weight on my temple. I think I’ve got it.

Re: Windy day at Keaton. 5/15/21
So if I’m three times farther than scallop radius I’m good to run.

Re: Windy day at Keaton. 5/15/21
Please advise what constitutes running through someone’s drift? I assume it means crossing the path of the drifting boat downwind to where the boat will drift, but how close? Does it depend upon the wind speed? Please note I keep a good distance from other boats when I run, but want to be clear on p...

Re: Stone Crab Traps
A legal stone crab trap in Florida must have a degradable panel and an escape hole for smaller crabs. The requirements seem designed to prevent bykill of small crabs and allow larger crabs to escape lost or abandoned traps. https://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/stone-crab/ Is the link to ...

St. Marks April 26 report
It ended up being a beautiful day on the flats once the wind laid down. We got out mid morning. We tried around some oyster bars with nary a bite, and then headed out to the flats. With no live shrimp available I sabikied up some pin fish using chunks of spent gulp. The action was incredibly slow, b...

Re: Free Penn Reel w/ Fenwick Rod
Thankfully just a $50 Ugly stick combo but had only caught two fish. In about 4 ft of water about 3/4 mile off Wakulla beach. Learned the hard way never use your kayak paddle as a rudder when you have a rod in the flush mount rod holder behind the seat.

Re: First cobia I've seen this year
Can’t say anything about Cobia as I haven’t been on the water for several weeks, but I did see a swallow tailed kite Saturday at Tom Brown Park while on the second hole.

Re: Good areas for a novice "captain"
Just know that upriver from the fish camp the deeper water shifts from one side of the river to the other multiple times on the Wakulla. Until you get comfortable with where those shifts take place, the river can go from eight feet deep to two in real short order. Take it slow until you get comforta...
Re: Bad gas?
No but a couple years back I had water in my tank after filling up at a station at woodville Highway and Bloxham Cutoff after a period of heavy rain. I had almost exactly the amount of water pumped out as I had added “gas” the prior fill up.
