Re: Boating Fatalities- Alligator Point
Wife had been aboard until a day or two earlier when she'd flown home from one of the prior port stops... they definitely knew about the storm. Can't recall precise time that wave heights were max but for anyone who does, here's a timeline on communications from Crystal River and then when traveling...

Re: Boating Fatalities- Alligator Point
With just bit of sleuthing online can't help but wonder if there's more to the story than most of us know. Boated at least from NYC down and around Miami with online updates from multiple major port stops along the way... 72192143_10162351369565161_7159787426771107840_o.jpg Big/fast boat going that ...

Re: 24 in Gag at Rotary Reef
Bit surprised at the lack of luck with the cobes... didn't have luck with keeper-sized ones, but think I tagged five shorts last trip out just two weeks ago.
Warm as the weather has been so far this early fall I suspect they'll be hanging around at least until the end of the month.

Re: Proven Insect Repellent
As someone who has over the years finally built up a pain tolerance against no see-ums, but still can't tolerate skeeters and deer flies, I can attest that consuming copious amounts of garlic the night before an outing definitely repels them. No question about it. Just one drawback... It also repel...

Re: New wal mart gun rules
Salty Gator, suspect you like the forum being relatively friendly and somewhat poltics light (DEFINITELY so in comparison to quite a few other outdoor related forums)... so kind of surprised by the trolling post just begging for drama. So with that shared, my quite sincere question would be how do y...

Re: First Cobia
Congrats AND condolences... say that as in my book the crazy, masochistic fun of catching bruiser cobes is hard to beat and once experienced can ruin you for just about all other fishing in the Big Bend!

Re: Forth of July luck
Awesome and fun story!  On the turtle note, they'll definitely tag along with loggerheads. I mainly pitch eel jigs to cobes that follow another hooked one up, but back when fellow board member Sharkman lived / fished in our area and I fished with him he rarely failed to cast to any /...

And said another way with fewer words, for anyone who visits our office her "approved" list wasn't created to diss any brands as much as speak to those she and our entire staff have used themselves and really like. The list was put up in our rooms to proactively answer the question that co...

I’ll also add skinsect is not on Dr Kennedy’s list of approved sunscreen  Putting words in her mouth (which is always a bit of a dangerous thing for me! ), I'll just say it's not that she's against its use as much as it utilizes chemical blocks in the sunscreen portion versus mineral b...

Third Trips The Charm
Guessing this may be the latest "1st report of the year" I've posted since joining the forum back in 2005. Actually have taken 3 salt trips out this year and won't take long to detail the first two. On trip #1 I went alone mid-April. Main reason for the trip was to make sure the boat would...

Re: This weather sucks.
Sucks for saltwater fishing, but we were in the midst of a full on drought and needed the rain something FIERCE, so I'm not going to curse it just quite yet (until/unless it ends up darkening the waters all summer long and don't think we're there just quite yet). For the past month I was hauling wat...
Re: Panga
Above old post re-shared, I'll add a little more info for whatever it's worth. I actually bought the 22' with goal of splitting time about 90/10 % targeting reds at nearshore bars with only OCCASIONAL offshore trips for gags when in season. First year or two I owned the boat, I fished inshore much m...
Re: Panga
Quite a few old threads that cover pros / cons, but for some reason (and wish Bman could figure it out if he sees this!) the search bar feature DOES NOT work from the home page but DOES work if you click into the forum board index. So versus re-writing a response, I'll just paste one of the ones I f...

Thanks! I see it on there now... Now if I can figure out how to convert the numbers to a different format. http://www.earthpoint.us/Convert.aspx And if I entered the numbers right, think this provides the correct results... if you use it in the future for any other conversions, just be su...
