Good advice. And I do wear the kill switch and inflatable vest. Good strategies from everyone - great forum!

Re: Winter pinfish?
I found some on a public reef in 40-45 feet last week, trolling a blue-green diving plug. I've caught them before on reefs closer to St Marks, but those get a lot of fishing pressure

Winter pinfish?
So the pinfish have moved off the flats and I need my grouper bait. Do they act like trout and move into the river, or do they go to deeper water like nearshore rock piles?

Re: blackened fish instructions
They also sell Prodhomme's blackened seafood seasoning at Publix. I use that even if I'm not technically doing the super-hot blackening thing. Just sprinkle it on filets and sautee in a little olive oil on the stove. Medium high heat gives you a little crisp on the outside, tender on the inside Sent...

Re: Trolling strategies
I have a good fishing buddy, but he works lots of weekend & holiday shifts in law enforcement. And I must confess, time on the water alone is good for my soul.

Re: Trolling strategies
Thanks. I've heard what you're suggesting for keeping them out of the rocks, but I was putting it in neutral before I grabbed the rod, and it seemed like the sudden slowdown might have given these gronks some slack to get off the hook. I'll try it your way next time, just have to make sure I don't f...

Trolling strategies
Here's a question. I'm trolling alone with a deep diving plug for gags and I get one on. I kick it in neutral and pick up the rod, and the fish is off. Happened 3 times today. Do y'all pop it into neutral or leave it in gear, or doesn't it matter? What did work was to put on a big planer with 20 fee...

Re: Veterans Day 2021- St. Marks
Y'all did good. I hit several spots on the flats and then went to some offshore rocks to pick up some BSB. Came back in to Cobb rocks and "caught" the biggest gator trout I've hooked in a while. Got her to the boat, got sloppy and tried to swing her onboard without a net, and you can guess...

Re: Land fishing and crabbing in st marks
Simple spot to start is to park at the lighthouse boat ramp and then walk out on the oyster bar that sticks out from tha canal where boats go out. Friends have caught a lot of fish from the deep hole just beyond the tip of the bar. Go at low tide the first time so you can see what's there. After tha...

St Marks report Sunday
Had a chance to go for a few hours Sunday morning. North winds blowing out made things sporty even on the flats. Nothing in shallow on grass flats east of the lighthouse or the rock garden. Let the winds blow-drift us out to 4 feet, still nothing. Finally we went out to a small shoal 3-4 feet deep s...

Father-son time on the water
My son is home on leave from the Air Force. We've done some fishing on our own (redfish foto) but decided Cap'n Dustin (RedBeard) had the local knowledge to show us a few things. Beautiful weather heading out from Shell Point Great time fishing and learning from Cap'n Dustin Caught trout & floun...
