Re: Did anyone from GA get told to go home this weekend?
I used to work for the engineering company that built the Carabelle City ramp and park down near the mouth of the river. That project was funded with federal grant money. I wonder what the terms of the grant are? Remaining open to the public perhaps? A violation of the grant terms would mean the Ci...
Re: Filefish
Yeah, you really need bigger ones to make it worth it. We usually kept em 20"-28" in the Atlantic. Not sure how common that size is in the Gulf.redcodefsu wrote:Tasted good fried but not worth the hassle. Very little fillets.
Re: Filefish
We did keep one and I filleted the little meat it had. Very white meat, I'll fry it tonight and try it. https://i.ibb.co/nbqXDHr/IMG-20200404-111428.jpg There are a lot of different filefish species, most don't have any regulations (reverts to 100lbs aggregate), but some are illegal to harvest. I d...
Re: Filefish

Re: Are we allowed to fish?
Crossing state lines isn’t the problem, crowds are the problem. St marks will be super crowded, especially with Taylor county closing their ramps. Idiots will crowd the ramp and it will be shut down. Please go to the flint. Much less crowded :smt006 That's a great idea! The Shoal Bass should be bit...

Re: Finally--Learning to Catch Sheepshead
Flip the fish over place your thumb inside pushing down on the ribs and pull the tail up and away. This motion will snap the ribs and free the fillet off with just the skin to be removed. This technique works on almost all fish, keeps your blade sharp and cuts down on waste. YEP!!!! Do this. Redfis...

Re: Single hook vs. treble hooks on lures?
I use single's a fair amount on my top-water and sub-surface. I find some of the lures that come with single hooks now tend to be a bit big, and I'll swap them out with some smaller VMC's (just make sure you get the ones with the inline eye). As others have mentioned, I do think I hook less fish ove...

Re: Budget Rod/reel options
I second the Pfluger Presidentals and Battle II's. I have four Pfluger that I use in freshwater and have another half a dozen Battle's (2,500 and 4,000) for salt. Those are actually the only reels I use now for inshore/freshwater. I did find that the Pflugers don't work well in salt, but I have 2 of...

Re: Fishing Apalachee Bay at Night
All the fish go to sleep at night, plus...that is when all the sea monsters come out! Don't bother, its terrible...you will catch nothing...and your boat could get eatin by sea creatures! But...if you do...make sure all your lights work and you are paying attention. My dad was fishing off the bow at...

Re: Navigational App
Navionics has an app,as long as cell service is good. A hand held GPS such as Garmin will be more reliable I do the same. I have the navionics app if I need it, but use my handheld Garmin GPS 76sc for most everything else. Although, neither will really show trouble spots you mention if you don't al...

I tried to do this one time a few years ago. It was cheaper to just buy a new one from Amazon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk https://www.amazon.com/Leader-Accessories-Mounting-Hardwares-Aluminum/dp/B00ZEHWKAW?ref_=Oct_CABSellerC_3397621_2&pf_rd_p=3c19a7e0-baab-5c0a-9789-b89f3f869aac&pf...

Re: 2 stroke motors
I think evinrude are the only 2 strokes left, all others will be four strokes. This thread piqued my curiosity. My current 4-stroke couldn't hold a candle to my older 2-stroke on my small jon boat. I found Tohatsu also makes a 2-stroke going from 25hp to 115hp. It's also direct-injected instead of ...

Re: 2 stroke motors
Tohatsu still makes two strokes I think. check out there website. Lott's marine in Douglas Ga is a dealer. 912-384-2299 Isn't Evinrude/Johnsons all Tohatsu's in the smaller HP. I know Mercury's have been for quite awhile. I believe its 50hp and under, but I am hoping someone may have more info or c...

Re: Boat / Marine Electrical Work
Looks great. Having the right tools (wire stripper, heat gun for shrink tubing, clamp for quick connects, marine bus, proper terminal ends, etc) makes the job relaxing for me. I enjoy rewiring stuff. Is that weird? NOPE! I enjoy it as well, always thought I was weird too. Glad I'm not the only one.
