With everybody tying flies these days and possibly some time spent laid up in the near future, I was looking in to trying to build a rod. I've been looking and mudhole.com and a couple of other site but was curious if anybody here had tried it. Any advice or a DVD or book a brotha can borrow before I ordering stuff?

Here is what I've got done so far.
Rear Grip reamed and epoxyed, reel seat epoxyed in with shims to get a snug, secure fit.

Looks Awesome RC!!!! Ive always wanted to build one too. Let me know how the guide wraping goes as Ive always thought that would be the hardest part.

Since I went fishing today, I didn't have time to do too much on the rod but I did get the foregrip epoxyed and the winding check put on. I'll let that sit and cure tonight and start prepping the guides and experimenting with some color combos for the wraps.
I'm trying to decide if I want to do just a regular solid color butt wrap w/ some trim bands or try to figure out how to do a fairly popular pattern. I'll probably just do the solid color w/ 2 trim bands like I was planning on doing to the guide wraps.

Well day 3 1/2 started with aspirations of guide wraps and trim bands.
This is what I got done, it took most of the day but after 4-5 tries on the first guide I think I got the hang of it sorta.

This is where it got a little tricky. The guide foot from here on up were only about 3/8" long and got smaller, with 1/4" tape to hold them down there ain't much room to work with.
This is the unfinished finished look.
I think I'm gonna do green trim wraps but I've got to work on making them look a lot better.

A couple of updated pictures of the trim bands I did tonight. I wanted to do a simple color scheme, you know nothing really flashy, just simple.

The only issue that came up today was time. The thread I'm using needs a color preserver and that takes up to 1 1/2 hours to cure before it's ready for the finish, so I'll get to those tomorrow afternoon. She'll be ready for a sea trail this weekend.
