Fish are in the river.....

Post by bman »

So I have seen facebook photos of trout and reds up both the St.Marks and the Ochlockonee Rivers...
How good is it? Who wants to spill the beans?
Any one been to Econ or the Aucilla?

Haven't tried it yet this year. My experience has been that they come in when the water temperature gets into the mid 60 degree range. Any idea where it's at now?

I got a report from St. Marks River today. Man from Moultrie went yesterday, got 1 flounder. No trout, water was dark and stained. Nobody else catching, either. :( I think I will wait on more cold weather, it's already warming up here.

I fished the Weeki Wachee river down in Hernando Co with a buddy and each got our limit of mangrove snappers. Saw sheepshead and a few good sized snooks in the river too. I'm going to start paddling around the St Marks when I get back from Thanksgiving.

What a picture!

But really, fish are all over the place. Fished the rivers yesterday and Sunday to stay protected from the wind.

Trout to 22" on multiple baits (live/arti)
Reds to 25" on multiple baits (live/arti)
Some sea bass, snippa snappas, and some keeper sheepshead. One flounder but wasn't expecting the bite so I lost'em in the fight.

The fish are there, but are moving more than I change tackle; they're all around though. Water was pretty dark all directions, Temps varied throughout the day.

split time between the Hudson and the Columbia :-D :-D :-D :-D

But they're all over the usual suspects. I'll find out Mon/Tues if they've moved anywhere since this warmer weather has fallen upon us

I fished the Ochlocknee near the state park including the Dead and old Sopchoppy rivers and all I caught were two small bass. Nothing else, not even a bite. Gonna try the Wakulla Monday.
