Red snapper close? or far?

Post by OleFish »

Planning a fishing trip out of Carrabelle in search of red snapper and grouper... Should i plan to go to a nearer spot such as One More Time/Yamaha Reef or should I run out to near S-Tower? (or V tower if that spots hotter right now?)

We've run to V and S the last couple of trips and caught decent fish.

The snapper have been in 60 plus feet. I suggest you go to a number you have never seen anyone at before. Something with small relief. All the other places have most likely been picked over by other fishermen. A few weeks ago I hit a ledge that has was great early in the season. It's by no means a public number but I have seen other boats on it before. After spending a couple hours there we only caught 2, just legal snapper and a few short gags. Figured it had been picked over so I moved about a mile to another number with a lot less structure. Within 30 min we closed out our snapper limit along with 4 stud gags.

Most public numbers are good the first week or two of the season but after that they go down hill quick.
