GROUPER REGS QUESTION -

Post by Steve Stinson »

Somebody give an inshore guy a clue here - The way I read the grouper regs both State and Federal waters are closed after Dec. 31 until April when State waters open again.

Is this correct?

Thanks - Steve Stinson

Rule #1 when it comes to talking about the weather. 1. Don't talk about the weather. Now showing 1-2' seas.

Yes it will. Full moon is Tuesday. I've always heard 4 days before and after. Saturday will be 3. What I've personally come to hope for/ expect for grouper fishing on the full moon is, if you get half your limit, your doing pretty well. Any more is gravy

One legal grouper is plenty. Kids just want to see bent poles. Our 40# rigs got broke off 4 times last weekend.

We fished in 55-60 feet of water on Saturday and caught close to 30 legal sized snapper, with some of them being full grown hosses. On the flip side, we only caught 1 short gag and 3 short red grouper. We eased into the 40 foot range and loaded up on big rock bass and caught a few more legal size snapper. We decided to troll a little while in the 35-40 foot range and picked up one nice gag. Seas were great, the weather was great, rods were bent often for the kids, and a mess of fish were brought home. On the downside, it sure would have been nice to have been able to keep a least a couple of those ever illusive snapper..... Happy New Year All.........
