Shallow snapper?

Has anyone heard of or caught any keeper red snapper shallow? 25-35ft?

Not personally since the regular rec season opened. A couple of weeks ago, yes, in 35-40’. It wouldn’t surprise me if the higher profile artificial reefs might hold some decent ones in 50’, even now.

I haven’t made it out to drop a line yet since opening day due to the weather. Next week, god willing. And then it will be in 70-100’.

I've caught several in 30' while targeting grouper out of SM but haven't been to those spots in a few. If you are questioning this depth due to the distance from shore I suggest you go farther west. Deeper water is much closer in that direction. You have to go about 13 miles out of SM to find 30' of water. Off of Mexico beach 30' is within a mile from shore.

Caught a 24” and a couple 20’s two weeks ago in 43’ of water off Dog Island. Thats about 8-9 miles out.
