I guess I'll add my 2ยข. I'm a Lowrance fan and I like the Lowrance Elite 9 Ti with total scan. I haven't had any issues with mine at all so I can't comment on customer service. I also haven't had the problems with settings that Steve is having. I currently have the Elite 9 on the console and a Humminbird Helix on the bow. For me, the Elite 9 runs circles around the Helix and is the most user friendly unit I've owned but I agree about the side scan not being of much use for inshore fishing.... Maybe I just don't know how to use it. I used to be a Garmin fan before switching to Lowrance and for me, Lowrance is easier to operate but both are quality products in my opinion. I will say that if you decide to go Lowrance, I wouldn't go with anything less than an Elite Ti since the processor speed on the Hooks and older units is slower and can result in slow screen refreshing... and it sucks when your boat runs faster than your chartplotter. :hammer:

I upgraded to an elite ti 9 this past year, and I've really enjoyed it, both offshore and inshore. Navionics app is ideal. Sidescan is really cool for finding the best structure and schools of fish on the artificial reefs, but not bad for finding winter fish in the river as well. No problems with it keeping up with refresh, running 35 mph.
My only problem has been when I am setting down a track and I really zoom in, the track is so wide it covers up my GPS spots. Haven't figured that one out yet.

Appreciate the feedback all have given. Took me awhile to figure out the difference between the Garmin 93 and 94. The 94 has the Blue Chart Coastal which would be of more use to me. A Talquin map would be very useful but that requires purchase of the appropriate Lake Vue card. After all the reading and tinkering at retailers, I think the Garmin 74SV would be the best unit for my boat. West Marine has them on sale (thanks for that tip silverking!) starting Friday for $599 with the Blue Chart Coastal g3 maps.

Bass Pro Shops, I thought the 93SV with Lake Vue rather than the 94SV was the one on sale for $599 for BF? That sale is the one that prompted me to research which FF/chart plotter to get.

Get the biggest screen you can afford.

Screens shrink once you put them on the boat and stand back 3-4 feet.
