I don't see the point. How is that much different from regular skydiving? It'd be one thing if he jumped out of a plain in a kayak and took it down a snowy mountain into a flowing stream or lake or something like that without a parachute, but this is not much different from regular skydiving.

It's a matter of velocity at landing that dictates the use of a high drag device. Get the landing down to 15-18 fps veritcal velocity and some fool will try ie w/o a chute.
