ST Marks NWR - 10 May 2015

Post by Terrier »

Fished St Marks from 7:30AM - 1:30 PM. Better than last week, but still slow. Ended up with 2 trout, one at 18" caught topwater on a Gartside Gurgler and one at 20" caught on an olive/chart/white clouser. Also picked up a spanish at 15" on the same clouser. Had a few cut-offs and short strikes from spanish as well. Long bar produced all three fish today - couldn't get anything at the wash bar or other oyster bars to the west. The water is clear with a slight tannin stain. Saw lots of mullet and glass minnows ,along with a manatee, sharks, rays and a turtle. I brought home the smaller trout and the spanish - the trout had been eating shrimp, not baitfish.

Excellent detailed report, thanks!

Shrimp seems to be the food of choice or is it that pin fish is in shorter supply?

Thanks again for the good report.

The long wand wizard strikes again. Nicely done.
