St George Island 24 April 2016

Post by Terrier »

Made the first trip of the year to SGI Sunday. Tried the beach with spinning gear for pompano early but the water was dirty and the tide was low. Crossed over to Rattlesnake Cove/Youth Camp boat Ramp. Water was actually clearer than Gulf side, still wasn't clear and there was little bait in the water. Ended up getting a 17" trout in Rattlesnake cove. Hiked over to the oyster bar across from Goose Island - the water was clearer but couldn't get anything. Ended up back at Rattlesnake cove and found some big ladyfish. By then, the wind had silted up the water so I called it a day. Did see a nice catch of redfish and trout from some boaters at the Youth Camp Boat ramp -they had got into the reds down toward the east end flats adjacent to deep water, so there is some activity. I may give SGI another shot in a few weeks, provided with don't any more rain.

Glad you got out and caught something. Too much rain has messed things up in a lot of places, we went to Carrabelle River Fest last Sat. and the river looks like coffee. Lots of boats out, too.
