ST Marks NWR - 19 May 2018

Post by Terrier »

Fished the lighthouse bars at the refuge from 3:00 - 7:00 PM on Saturday. Hot, bright with a steady breeze to start - couldn't get a thing until after 5:30. Then, I got three trout running the deep side of a bar, all in a short 30 minute period. All three were big: 25", 24" and 20". All three trout fought exceptionally well. I also lost a big jack which rubbed through the 12lb tippet. All fish came on an olive/chartreuse and off white clouser with a pink fluorofiber throat. Pictures aren't too good:

All fish were released.
A couple of bait fishermen were doing well fishing deep off the bar - this was around 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Nice trout. Great size! I bet the jack was a blast. Haven't caught one of any real size yet, but looking forward to it.
