Carb clean? Fuel line clean? Does it ever shut off?

There are some unbelievably helpful mud-motor message boards that can also help. I bet someone has had this problem and has a nice way to solve it so you dont have to call Bainbridge.

Change plugs and add seafoam to the gas and run it. Spray some carb cleaner in the throat of the carb while idling. Be sure the vent cap is open on your tank. If the gas is old, change it and then add seafoam.

I was told by a used tractor dealer to use seafoam earlier. It corrected a stuck fuel float on my 2004 Sequoa saving $350.00
I will Change plugs as the gas was fresh and I had seafoam in the tank.

Thanks

If that don't work, the two most obvious things are a gunked up jet in the carb or your timing is off.

I have a 23 HP VAnguard on my Mud Buddy. I had similar problems as well. Mine would run fine at high RPMs on land, but once in the water and under a load it would bog down. It needed serious carb cleaning. I would look first towards the carb as the culprit.

I just had my 2004 31 go-devil worked on. It cranked up and idled just fine. Even in the water it would idle around at 5mph like a dream. Hit the throttle and it would spit and sputter and then shut off.

I was in a hurry so I dropped it off at a small engine repair shop and they said the carb had something stuck in the high speed jets and they couldn't blow it out. They ordered a new carb for it and a day later with part and labor, I'm out $300. But its running perfect again.

I think you can get a new carb for $100-$125 and they aren't that hard to work on. I have taken mine off several times to clean it out.

Don't take it to Bainbridge. He doesn't fix motors.
