Lanark Boat Club Ramp Update, 1/6

Talked to Mike, the dockmaster, today as I was launching. A contractor is coming Tuesday to start work on the launch dock repairs. They are going to build up the seawall to grade, add a concrete walkway with handrail to the ramp down to the dock. Hopefully it'll be completed by the EOM.

And a reminder for those who haven't used this facility in awhile, you now have to be a member to use the ramp (resident or associate @ $15). Single launches are then $10 or $100 for an annual pass. You can get paperwork on-line or through the Lanark Mart.

Water over there is stained but fairly clear. Temps this afternoon were nearly 63 degrees. Found a few reds, all on 1/4-ounce Capt. Mike's weedless spoon in gold/silver.

Water visibility was about three feet deep, at times more, with a slightly tannic shade accented by suspended red clay silt and decomposed vegetable matter brought on by above average precipitation for the region and constant down-stream flushing action. Pronounced tidal lines in certain zones topped by frothy cream foam on the surface with mocha-colored water on one side and light olive green on the other.

Thanks for the report SK. I understand the clear (degree of visibility) and stained (a color) water report. If you can't understand that perhaps you should get off the couch and go look for yourself.

Is there anywhere to launch a kayak in the area, other than the Lanark Boat Club Ramp?

Back before all this nonsense with the boat club went on, I used to just park and the overflow area for the ramp and put a kayak in along the shoreline. I don't know if that would be considered using the ramp or not these days.

One more thought I had on the kayak launch - The Ho-Hum RV park is just west of the Lanark ramp. If you stop in and talk with them, they may let you launch and park your vehicle for a day.

There is a well-used Kayak launch spot about a 1/2 mile West of the Lanark Boat Club ramp. It's directly across from "Connecticut Street" You can see it on Google Maps. I see Yaks folks there all year round.

Don't try asking the Ho Hum folks, they will say no for sure. The spot above is what you are looking for. Nice little beach to launch and little wave action.

And right in the middle of the good fishing.

No problem Fly......I hope you get down there and catch em. I fish there almost every weekend during the summer and fall.

And as I re-read my post I see I made several grievous errors that have to be corrected. I should have quantified "nice little beach" and "little wave action" as one dude on here won't be able to understand what that means.

So "nice little beach" is approximately 5 feet of fine white and brown sand at a 3.0' high tide measured at the St. Marks lighthouse. Beach size and "niceness" will vary due to tide, sun angle, and wind.

"little wave action" is approximately a 12 to 18 inch chop if the wind is out of the southern quadrant and measures approximately 8 to 10 knots. Wind and seas may vary from hour to hour.

And......the water may be stained or clear, or dirty or clean.
