First real hunt with my daughter!

Post by bman »

My oldest is 4 and 1/2 - I have taken her scouting with me a few times and She and her sister have seen birds after hunts.
But yesterday was her first real day in the field.
We went to a friends place near Chattahoochee for a dove hunt.
I packed everything I could think of-- Snacks, Drinks, even crayons and her favorite stuffed animal.

It went perfect! She was not scared of the guns and had no problem picking up the birds.

She spent 15min inspecting the first bird...

Picked up 8, should have had 12 but it was distracting having her with me :-D
But the Numbers didn't matter.
We had a blast and I hope this the first of may trips to come!

Looks like you both had fun. The pink gun and hat are a nice touch for your little girl.

Very cool Barry. My daughter's first was a woodie hunt, but the prep was all the same.

I was trying to only shoot birds she could see, so I decided to only shoot birds flying towards me (I was on the hill and shooting as the entered or exited the pond-there were dozens of opportunities). I killed one and it landed about 30 feet in front of us. She sent the dog (her "job"). Then a few minutes later I again shot one heading at us. As I squeezed, I realized I had messed up. I had to jump up in front of our little makeshift blind and swat the bird out of the air to avoid it hitting her. Duh. The dog looked at me like I was nuts when I told him to fetch. It was about 5 feet from us and he knew that the close birds were "my birds" as I so often told him.
Ducks, turkeys, flats fishing. Who has time for golf?

Outstanding! What a cutie! The photos warm my heart. I love that 2nd photo.
You're gonna have many many more outdoor adventures with her I can tell.
Well done Barry! Thanks for taking the time to post this.
