2016 Big Bend Saltwater Classic

Post by FishWithChris »

...next weekend, June 17-19.

Who is fishing it?

Note that the Pro division is gone due to lower participation last year so Rec division will be larger.

$65 (online) registration
$30 and up for various jackpots.
Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark

Pulled the plug on plans for it today. Weather isn't looking so good.

I was going to pass, but weekend weather looks grim for motorboats on the flats...

...so I'm in.

Venice got cancelled. Thinking about fishing the tourney, but 2 days in these conditions will be a grind.

Pretty sure I might have rather been tortured at work instead
Of on the water Friday. Good grief what a storm come through
St marks. Lightning like crazy, wind worse than that and rain that
Hurt. Was pretty hairy but we persevered. Made it back to the
Lighthouse and there was a boat upside down, one about 10 feet
Up on the beach and paramedics working on someone at the dock.
Wasn't nice. Just glad nobody was lost. Y'all be careful out there.

During the middle of that storm, I was pinned down while wadefishing in the East River, after hiking 3 miles out from my car through the salt marsh. Was pretty sure I would not make it out alive this time, as the lightning strikes were marching like soldiers from Hell right towards and over me. Funny what goes through your mind when you think you're a goner. I was thinking about all the trash I had not cleaned out of my car, and was embarrassed that my wife would get stuck with the job if I perished in the swamp.

All that for one malnourished 25" red.
