That reminded me that the Big Bend is a pretty cool place to live, even given the current pandemic upheaval.
Orange of the ripening persimmons in a tree just by the road right of way a little outside the toll booth caught my eye and I remembered your bear sighting. Just wondered if they could have been snacking on nature's candy and were reluctant to leave.

109 entries as of today. While pinned down in a creek and praying during extremely close lightning strikes Friday, I reflected on the often trotted out phrase "At least he died doing what he loved." In the midst of the voltage display, I decided that this phrase is bullsh@t.

My wife decided if I had drowned while fishing the norfork river when the dam started generating power that she would have put "But the fish were biting" on my tombstone

120 entries as of today, including a rare fly rod trout landing from the bank (I don't even try any more from my kayak). The creek waters east of the SMNWR are still dark, but now finally taste salty. So the reds & trout are starting to compete with longnose gar and ladyfish for swimbaits. Replacing treble hooks with singles cuts down on the amount of floating grass grabbing your lure. I take both trebles off & just use a single wide gap bass worm hook on the back. Miss half the strikes, but sure is easier to unhook/release alive short trout from one single. And where I fish, 14 inch trout are thick as deerflies.

128 CCA STAR entries as of today. So depressing to catch one redfish after another without a Willy Wonka CCA tag on any of them. Except that is never actually depressing to be fishing.
