Beautiful November Saturday- St. Marks

Post by Srbenda »

Started around 1130, and hearing that all the trouts were off the flat, we started in the river.

Due to lack of skill, bait, and good oyster bed charts, we had no bites after nearly an hour, so we headed into the bay to try some hard bottom.
We fished paddle tails and gulps, and ended up with a keeper trout, and a few small sea bass, but the bite was slow.

We saw a large pod of porpoises, probably 10-15 they played in our boat wake for nearly 15 minutes. It was probably the most acrobatic display I've seen from them in the bay, some of it so close to the boat, we got splashed.

Then with the winds calming, we headed offshore. The day was beautiful, a light breeze, almost no waves, and a nice sun.

We found some nice rocky bottom, and fished a few small pieces of cut bait we had, and then more paddletails and gulps.

Gag grouper, unfortunately all short.
Flounders, also short.
Some keeper sea bass, and a pink mouth grunt.

We also lost a few unknowns.

It ended up being a great day on the water, with some decent fish, but calm seas and warm weather for mid-November. The run back was pretty chilly, but well worth the trip.
