Ecofina 4th-6th annual guys fishing weekend.

Post by Hit-n-Miss »

Friday my buddy and I got to the landing right at first light. We got launched and headed out. Image. Decided to go in and fish a creek first thing. We tried that for a while with no luck so we hit the flats. Headed down around Hickory Mound and tried to find some fish. Image. Image. Image. Fish were hard to come by but we gave it our best. Image. Talked to Bluespinner on the radio. He said he was catching some and invited us over there. We talked to him for a minute and he headed in. We fished while longer with no luck. So we headed in to get in the room. Image After showering and changing it was time to go eat at Deal’s. Yummy dinner and a show.

Day two Cinco de Mayo. We knew with the tournament going on we better get to the ramp early. First ones to the ramp. We dunked the boat at 5:30 and eased out the river with a light. Image It was just breaking day as we got to the mouth. Decided to skip trying for reds and went down towards rock island and started fishing. My buddy puts 4 trout in the box while I catch 4 blues. Man they were aggressive. Then finally I catch a trout. Image. We moved out with the tide and then the wind just died. There was barely any drift and no bites. Figured till the tide turned we’d just wait then move. Image. Saw this sea turtle swimming by and took a picture. Seconds later my buddy says look at that shark! I look ... it’s not a shark! It’s two Cobia one about 30” and one 50”!!! I yell get pinfish on quick! He pitched it behind the boat..... the big one takes and two seconds later it’s gone. DANG Oh well we move and fish some more. Wind up with 5 trout 4 blues and three sea bass today. Image Cleaned the fish at the cleaning station while the tournament weigh in was going on. Got cleaned up and hit Deals again for dinner. Love their shrimp.

Last day of the trip. We had to pack up and get our stuff out of the hotel before fishing so we got an early start. Image Decided to go towards Aucilla where we found cleaner water the afternoon before. It was a good decision. Was a great morning of fishing topped off with a nice Cobia. Image. Too bad it was too short. We decided to head in at lunch as us old guys were tired and sore from three days of fishing. But it was a great time as always. Image. Image. Water temp was in the mid 70’s the whole time and we never could find the magic color bait. Can’t wait till next year.

. Yeah it was a good time. But man I could not catch anything that first day. Think I’ve lost my fishing mojo.

. Yep to bad we not land it. But the odds were slim at best on trout tackle. The one I landed was on 10# test.

HM-glad you got to get after em-I know you had to take a dip and look for scallops at some point! Took my 12 yr old and son-in-law down to St. Marks Saturday. We fished from about 9-3 towards Aucilla in 3-7 ft of water. 2 trout, 2 rock bass, 1 blue, and lots of lady's and pins. New Penny gulp seemed to be the best. Always a good day!
