Steinhatchee 3/29: When 40lb fluorocarbon isn't enough

Post by doomtrpr_z71 »

A good friend of mine decided that he needed a break from 50+ hr workweeks, so what better to do than take a day trip to the hatch with an early departure to avoid spring breakers and an arrival to a beautiful day on the water with good company. While trout were the original plan, we were very limited on time and happened onto a large school of of good sized Spanish and bluefish. Since we only had a couple hours we decided to keep it fun and chase the school around. We ended uo with 7 Spanish, 10 bluefish and 1 nice trout. The trout came from 4 ft of water with a water temp of 66F. We lost several more large spainsh as even my 40lb test Seaguar wasnt quite up to snuff but had a blast and even made it to lunch at good times before 1. The only damper on the day was the phone call we received on the way back that someone with a 5th wheel camper had ran over the front of my buddy's truck in the Loves parking lot, but we ziptied the grill in and he was on his way thankfully.

Thanks for the report. Macks are fun on light tackle.

Did you use bleach and a fire hose on the boat afterwards?
